Ice racing Sunday 3/2

i am signed up. problem is i'm signed up at my work email address so when they send out emails on the weekend i don't get them til monday. i'll watch the site more closely this week so i won't miss it

Aside from the waiting in the cold it was a blast. I checked the Subi forums and they were bitching about it too. Lots of people were trying to race beyond their own ability and beyond what was actually possible on glare ice covered in snow. Some cars go so stuck it took 20-30 minutes to dig them out. That just isn't cool. There were instructors available and everyone was reminded to take it slow...but even then some people got stuck on both of their runs. It made the day go very slow.

I'm glad that I was able to get 3 runs in without any major errors. I played it safe and my times were pretty good. I don't think I hit the brakes at all aside from a few e-brake yanks. The brakes did no good on the ice, especially when you were in a situation where you needed them.

i understand it sucks to wait while someone digs their car out for being an idiot....but at the same time the reason I would be going is to fly around as fast as I can without losing it - which will probably include a tickle fight or two or three with a snow bank. If I wanted to carefully drive around sensibly on ice I would just turn my hose on and use the parking lot at my condo :)

I see your point...but it gets old real fast when people can't even make it around the track on their first attempt and each person that is lined up is lectured on taking it slow. The course should have been wider but there was quite a bit of snow and only one plow. And these weren't accidental spin outs, they were just going way too fast out of the straights and hitting the outside banks head on. There wasn't even enough traction to kick the rear end out if you were driving FWD/AWD. Slow is Fast on ice as they say and after watching some of the top drivers for the day I see their point. To post a good time you have to finish :)

SO what was the format? Looks like you go out 1 at a time? Looks like a lot of fun.

?? But you guys seemed to have a couple of runs? Are there practice runs?
We had 3 timed runs on the main course (coulda had 4 if people didn't get stuck so much) and several runs on the practice course, which is unlimited untimed runs.

Hey everyone! This is my first post in this forum. I'm the guy with the red RX-8 you saw on the pics. I had a blast, even though I had one of the slowest times of the day (funny enough I beat Astral's time even though he had the snow tires...try not to spin next time, hehehe :P)

They are planning on having another event this sunday...be sure to check the BMW CCA Boston Chapter site for updated info.

Sweet!!! I took that turn a lot faster on my 2nd run....at least I thought it was fast until I watched the EVO video :(

The back end on the MS6 was not coming out at all, it was all understeer. I wonder if that's because the AWD system in the MS6 is designed to throw 90% of the power to the front under normal conditions.

I really want to go back and try again. After analyzing my video some more it is almost like the car rights itself any time I thought I was beginning to understeer. Perhaps that was the AWD kicking in, and I just needed to have more faith in the car. I can't make this weekend but I'm going to try to make next weekend if they have it.

Rafael, Here's you on your first run. I missed your second run for some reason.
