I took off all the badges from the back

Closed all the holes and repainted whole trunk.

i know ha...sorry for the jack but had to ask! so back on the topic, equinox has the same thing done and it looks good too. can it be done without painting the entire door? can't you just fill the wholes, tape off around them and then paint?

no. you'll end up with a nice rough edge where the tape was. it'll look terrible.
