I think I have a syncro problem

I have a 2002 protege5 and it shifts into 3rd but as I go faster it eventually pops out on its own. If I hold it in it will not pop out. Is this a syncro problem?

Try double clutching all the time, see if that changes anything.
I'm no expert but I doesn't sound like the syncros, try googling worn syncro symptoms.

Back in my SE-R days, that car was notorious for 5th gear pop-out. The fix included a slew of parts including (but not limited to) a new 5th gear, a synchro and a shift fork. 3rd gear popout is not common on this chassis and the path of least resistance may be a used transmission.

Before diving off the deepend though, have you checked the fluid level for the transmission? And better yet, have you changed the fluid recently? Being low on fluid can have adverse effects on your transmission.

Sounds like sycros same thing happend to me on my way back from New york city less than 30 days later it sounded like a rock ina dryer. Time to start looking for a new tranny.
