I think I broke a rod...

Well, while coming off of a stoplight, I slightly step on it, and all of sudden, I hear the buzzsaw sound that I heard in Dave's (Pro5) video. I pull into the Tom Thumb, and look under the car, oil is just pouring out. I think that the rod went though the oil pan. This s*** sux! More to follow..(sad2)

What's going on with our boosted rides, indeed. I'm getting hosed by this woman's insurance company right now. Good luck to you man.

I need help fast! So any help anyone can offer would be apreciated. I am hoping that the head is ok, if I need a new block, I can find a used one and swap it out. I will see in th AM what I need to do.

the FS-DE is a non-interference engine so you may be ok but if you broke a rod you are phucked.....what did you do man.....have you been hearing knock or anything....makes me think twice abotu turbo all of a sudden but not really....you have the worst luck with that car man...did you loose all power in the motor or did it just die on you? Details man a buzzsaw noise could be anything. If you threw a rod that bad then you woudl have seen a very large hole in your oil pan and the way that would rods set in it woudl more likely go thorugh the block before the oil pan. Hope it willbe alright man........

Could you still drive your car? Just wondering. I'll shoot you a im tomorrow.

Dave

I just hope it something stupidly irrelivent like a belt snapped or somthing. Maybe somehting happened to the turbo only and you will still be within warrenty.

I'll be praying for your car!

Naw, guys, I seriously think a connecting rod broke. I heard the exact same sound that I heard in Dave's video, and my engine cut out just like his. There was all kinds of oil just pouring out from the bottom of the engine. I pulled over so fast that I didn't get to see any smoke comming out ouf the tailpipe. I musta been going like 40 MPH when it happened. It really doesn't make sense that my rod just broke like that. It all goes back to the theory that the engine I recieved from Japan was faulty to begin with. I will use my scantool in the AM to check out my freeze frame data. Then I will pull the plugs to find out which is the lucky cylinder. In the meantime, I need to have a fast turnaround to get back up and running. I have already talked to Dave (Pro5), and will be searcing for a new engine. MazdaRecyclers will definitely be getting a call. Once I get it, it looks like I will be installing it. If I make out good enough, forged rods will definitely be going in. If anyone has any concrete info on how to obtain the forged rods (made for turbo applications) for our 3rd gens, in a timely maner, let me know please ASAP!!!

Eek. Why not just rebuild your block? Or would it cost more $ than a new one? Damn dude, I really feel for ya. I think someone on here from Puerto Rico had forged rods made...he has a red P5...

If there is a hole in my oilpan, the block is damaged too. The rod went to work on the cylinder walls.

Ohhh...mannn that is terrible news....I was monitoring your J&S safegaurd post and was looking pretty good...It kinda makes my skin crawl when I hear about what is happening to our rides with boost. Sure wish I could help...I know how it feels when you blow something up in your car...I am familiar with that pain. At least in your case you still have your car...mine blew up(honda HB)01....RIP.

Yeah, hopefully I can be back up very soon. I am currently researching forged rods right now. Looking at everything, this should not have happened! The J&S was working great, and the boost was relatively low (6PSI). That engine from Japan has been s***.

That sucks! Man, you are the only person on this forum that has had worse luck than me with this car. I'm not going to keep dumping money into it though. You should think about your situation before you put that turbo back on. Just some friendly advice.

WHat??? Then I wanna know who is!!
I only "know" someone here with a Red P5 that boosted it to 22psi and blew it up into pieces...maybe hes the one...??

What was his name?

Linux: maybe the overbore weakened the cylinder walls some?

Hmmm....that looks like a good deal. It really sux being stuck at work right now! Catching a cab may be in my future...:(
