I now know why they call this car "fun"

I've had this car for almost 2 years now, minus 3 months and 3 days when they replaced the passanger side cuz of some red light running lady. Back to subject... I've always had fun driving my car, but since my friend got his Eclipse, and can pull on me in 3rd, I wondered why I got this car. Well, now I know. People from San Diego will know what I'm talking about, others...I'll explain best I can.

Through San Diego there's many valleys and canyons. A main valley runs from almost the beach, starts near Old Town, and runs to El Cajon. At the main part is Mission and Fashion valley. Through this part runs two S/N freeways, the 163 and 805. The 163 comes down one side and back up again. But the 805 has this HUGE bridge that goes from one side of the valley to the other, I'm guessing it's at least 100ft tall. If you are going 8 east from the beach and want to get on 805 north, theres a ramp with a tight turn while climbing up pretty steeply(word check...). They suggest doing this ramp at 50mph. The other night I did it at 90 and had fun doing it. Tonight after work, I went out of my way to get back on that ramp to do it at 100mph. That was FUN!!! But I felt it start to slip a little so I wouldn't try it any faster than that.

I'm wondering how they come up with those "recommended" speeds... There's another that says 25, but I go 60. And one that says 35, but I go 65. 25 to 60 = 2.4x, 35 to 65 = 1.86x, 50 to 100 = 2x. It's odd that there no balance here. I should be able to take the 50mph ramp at 120(50x2.4) if I can that the 25 at 60(25x2.4)... Maybe it depends on the turn itself...

I've talked to long wasteing all your time. Time for bed...I never knew Anime could be depressing until now... (sad2)

those speeds are ment for civics lol my dads car on a off ramp off the turn pike can dit it at like 100+ my dad drives a Z3 omg that car is crazy lol but i still like my mp5

grishulia is partially right. it usually depends on the superelevation of the curve and the coefficient of friction of the road when it is wet (in michigan we have to account for snow also). I think there might even be a truck factor in there too. there's actually a formula you can use to figure it out but most states have standardizations now. all you really have to do is look it up on a chart. they usually set the posted speed a little below the design speed for a factor of safety too. sorry about all the engineering mumbo jumbo, but you asked for it.

I know what you are talking about - not the actual spot, but the fun of seeking out long sweeping off-ramp or on-ramp curves. People in the Bay Area should check out the Ashby exit off west 80 (actually heading south at the time) in Berkeley. There's an even better one off the east 580 in Richmond (also actually heading south), I think it's the Carlson exit.

It's loads of fun to just stomp on the gas and go hard around those curves...

posted recommended speed limits vary widely in accuracy.

but think of the worst handling, top heavy, roll over prone SUV with over inflated tires... thats who the engineers are looking out for ;)

i find in Los Angeles i can go 1.8x to 2.0x the posted speed limit comfortably. going faster ill start to squeel a bit.

in some canyon roats however when you start getting down to 5-15 mph turns those things are tight as hell and really do need to be taken pretty slow.

I LIVE for "long sweeping off-ramp or on-ramp curves"!!! :D

There's one on my back from work and I love to punch it to the limits!
