Protege5
Hello, guys!
It's really nice to meet you guys. It's first time I write a thread.
I just bought a red Protege5 with auto, moonroof, 6 CD, and leather seat. I wanted to get one with alarm, but these late days I couldn't find any red car with alarm on it. So I just bought this car.
However, did you guys get an alarm after you bought it? If so, where did you get it? From dealership or aftermarket one?
Is it OK for the warranty to get installed it from independent shop?
Please advise me with your full of knowledge.
Thanks in advance.

i dont think a aftermarket alarm would give any problems with warranties.

Thanks for the quick reply, pdhaudio.
I think dealership would charge at least $400 for the installation (maybe more than that). How much did you pay for the alarm installation if you didn't do it by yourself?

mine was stock. for a decent alarm aftermarket install will be $100-$500 depending on what alarm and how much stuff it does.

i wouldnt get a dealer alarm. hit the aftermarket. dont get just a cheap alarm either. goto a place that somewhat specializes in car audio/ electronics/alarms.

best of luck :)

i dont think a OEM alarm could be all that hard, i think they already have most the wiring in place. maybe all you need it the alarm control unit. check it out.

Just go to some place like Best Buy and get a alarm. Cost was $300 installed for a clifford alarm on my civic. I'm planning on installing my own on the mp5. Not in a hurry cause the factory alarm is fine for now on it.

dealerships very really install alarms. Most times they have contracts with local shops that do the install. Usualy you can go to the same shop and get an even better alarm installed for the same price.

For an example a local dealer up here is Talarico Mazda and Sound Service (single stor car arudio and electronics store) does all the optional alarm installs.

I know mp5 comes with keyless entry/panic. So if I want to add an alarm, it will be much easier job than installing it from scratch. Right?
If I buy an alarm with keyless entry for mp5, can they remove keyless entry unit from mp5 and install it into Integra?

You just won't use that key fob any more. The install is no more diffucult and your new alarm will be able to tap into the keyless entry wires so that it can still unlock your door.

Got mine done Aftermarket..I like the aftermarket ones better b/c they give you so many options...Like remote start..and such..

And the aftermaket company that installs the alarm should lifetime warranty all work done to the car...

So you shouldn't have to worry about mazda's warranty!

I just got my Compustar Starter/Alarm installed on the weekend and I'm very pleased with it. It uses a pager system which is VERY handy because if the alarm goes off, it pages the remote and gives you an idea of what's going on. Same thing goes with the starter. It sends you a signal back to the remote letting you know the vehicle has started successfully or not. My recommendation would be to find an alarm/starter that has a paging option. Usually a little pricier, but well worth it.!

To Bigblue:
How much did you pay for it?

________

I checked up the price of several alarms.

CC sells Viper 790XV with LCD for $480 installed.
CC also sells Prestige APS-996 with LCD for $440 installed.
BB has Black Widow BW-FM-7150 with LCD for $400 inatalled.

However I think I can buy those from ebay less than half price. But I'm afraid that whether I can install it by myself because I don't have any experience.
If I buy one off ebay and bring it to a local ahdio/security shop, will they install it for me? If so, roughly how much will they charge for it?
