i may leave the mazda community...

I sold the Protege and went Diesel and I haven't looked back! I've got a totally stock daily driver making 305HP and 555 lbs. of torque. People above were talking about HP gains, but torque is what moves you :) The VW TDI is an excellent vehicle. Like you said, 800 bucks will get you a fueling box and you can go from there. You can get bigger injectors, bigger turbo, etc. Not to mention, Diesel engines can handle a hell of a lot more boost than a gasser engine will ever take.

oh man dude, i was gonna buy your mp3! remember?

turbo majic you hit it on the spot...

upsoluute makes a flash chip for the tdi..$300
130hp and 210 lbft to the wheels...

bosch vw .315 injectors ... $150 (I HAVE A CONNECTION)
upsolute chip and injectors .... 160hp and 260lbft.

Tuning Box... (like the upsolute but just controls fuel) $250
all above mods will make about 190-200 hp and 300+lbft...

all those are simple and easy mods...

and that is with stock exhaust and intake..
intakes generally gain about 4-5 hp and 10lbft with the tdi...

a 2.75-3inch straight pipe and a 2.5 dp will gain massively with torque and a decent amount of hp...

i know of many people on tdiclub.com (i used to be a member)..
that are running the racing injectors and the upsolute chip for over 150k miles and still running strong...

the reason i got the mp3 was that i loved the styling and it was limited production.... i bought it with the thought i wouldnt mod it that much... but i was wrong...
i have had a ton of problems with my mp3 and im very upset about it....

to get an idea of how much torque helps in straight line..

most stock v8 stangs and the sorts run low 10's and 9's....
the tdi with JUST the upsolute chip can run 10.4 1/8 mile..

most moded tdi's can destroy the vr6's in the 1/8 mile...

also raising boost and changing to a larger euro turbo helps a lot...

a tdi with the upsolute spikes at18-19 psi and is steady at 12 lbs...

there are many tdi's in europe running 31psi... and making mad power....

and i will still get amazing mpg...
a stock tdi gets around 50 mpg...
most people who dont floor it all the time with injectors and the chips get about 48-55 mpg...

a diesel is a completely different animal compared to a gas engine...
and when it comes down to it i know a ton more about diesels than gasoline engines...

well since lurch finally emailed me back i am more than likely buying his engine if everything works out right...

i will keep this updated as time goes by

get the bike, keep the car. . .your need for speed will be filled with the bike. . . much more entertaining than just having the TDI!

anyone notice dreeza is just piping up and no one is really paying much attention to her?

another cool thing about the tdi is when you have those typical assholes tailgating you really close... all i have to do is drop a gear and floor it and the front of their car will be coated with soot... they will not follow you closely again...

i used to do this all the time with my old tdi... it was a blast...

much like the mp3 with cars tailgating you before a great turn..
just drop a gear and floor it and fly through the turn..

well i am going to stay if i can get everything sorted out with lurch with the engine..

The new common rail Diesels don't smoke nearly as much, but if you have a fueling box and injectors, you can really smoke someone out.

Here's a great video....A Ford F350 Turbo Diesel with a lift kit running an 11.5 second 1/4 mile against an RX-7.

heres my opinion.

keep the mp3 and get the bike.
heres my logic:
1) the mp3 looks a helluva lot better than any tdi does.
2) its a limited edition car as to a mass produced can see them on every corner car
3) it will out handle a tdi just like an olympic sprinter can beat me in a race

also the bike will satisfy all of your go fast thrills for the rest of ur life.

After hearing all of this, well... I would of bought a freakin' TDI. I have a mazdaspeed, it's fast and fun but oh mean seeing how fast you can make em with minimal money? Plus it's german :). And I'm sure with a little more money you could make it handle just as good as our cars. Maybe in the future I'll buy a new TDI if there is nothing else out there that is deisel. Who knows, but I love my car right now.
