The conservatives are the people that made this country. The constitution was made by people like us. Thats why there is no gay rights in it. Now you can change anything if you do it the right way. But you little s**** think that you can shove this liberal s*** down our thoughts until we give in. Well all that does is piss us off and then no one wins. Dont think because youre different that means you have rights. Rights like respect is earned, and you cant get any by forcing your way of thinking or your way of life on any one. And before you say thats what we are doing to you dont. This was our country first, thats why youre you fighting for the things that you dont have and we are the ones that can or can not give it to you.
huh? well, THAT was one of the most un-American things i've ever read. gonna have to disagree with you there:
1. this country was founded by liberals. those guys were pretty much as liberal as "liberal" got in those days. by today's standards they were extremely conservative, but in the 1700s the were incredibly radical. the government they formed was the first of its kind.
1a. the people who populated this country were liberals. unsatisfied with how things worked in the "Old World," they came here b/c of ideas (like equality) that were still unpopular in the rest of thew world.
2. "our" country? who the **** are you?
3. rights are inherent in our status as US citizens. the right to voice one's opinion, no matter how unpopular, doesn't need to be earned; it comes automatically with being an American. and PLEASE don't bring up "you can get fired for giving your opinion" b/c that straw man is way tired.
4. perhaps there are no "gay" rights in the constitution b/c *perhaps* the drafters didn't feel it was necessary to specifically enumerate rights. it's no mystery that the language of the constitution is vague; a set of fundamental principles meant to be adapted to present society. unfortunately, too many assholes in our history have brought to life the fears that caused the bill of rights to be included: if something isn't specifically protected in the consitution, some people think it's not there. that wasn't the purpose at all, but fortunately Madison saw how some people would read it.
5. conservatives will ALWAYS have the upper hand; that's how things work b/c inertia is more comfortable that change. the struggle between liberal change and conservative stagnation is what moderates the pace of change and allows society to function. if your line of thinking is correct, we'd still have slavery and women would be property. you have to take the whole package or none of it. if you're going to decry all "liberal" goals, you can't pick and choose.
6. who the **** are you? "our" country. **** YOU.
