I just got some killer deals...

Google returned a craigslist posting for a guy selling the SSRs in Denver. Price is good but they come with tires. I really don't need another freekin set so I'll try my best to sell the Rotas with the tires on them. I'll pass on my killer deal to anyone that is interested. $950+shipping.

I'm not crazy about the Exels either. Wheelmax is hit-or-miss. If I can't find the SSRs I'll prolly revert back to one of my previous favorites...

Exel Ennio or 5zigen Gravis II

I know they are a totally different look, but I don't want a cheap looking black wheel with a thin polished lip. The whole selling point of the Rotas was a) the price and b) they had plenty of polished lip to stand out of the crowd.

So I heard back from the original owner. He had a manual RX-8 but he grinded down part of the caliper to get them to fit....and here I thought Amanda was crazy for suggesting I do the same. I don't think I'm going to do that though. Maybe I'll give them another look to see exactly how much has to be grinded but IIRC it would have to be 3/8" to 1/2" down and maybe 3/8" back. It still seems kind of scary that you can do that though.

I kind of like those DL-46..... I know how you feel being picky about rims, I really want a black or gun metal MESH style racing wheel with the polished lip :D

There are plenty of those out there. I like them also but I want something that will show off the brakes a little more.

I understand how you feel, are yours painted? or have you upgraded to bright red brembos? (boom04)

Either way I guess I just like the mesh........ there's a style from HP designs you might like....... they're called Split 5s come in black with polished lip.....

just visit http://www.hpdesignwheels.com

Grinding down the caliper, first I've heard of that. Why not just a spacer?
Well, a spacer causes rubbing issue for one thing but clearance is with the top of the caliper (furthest from the hub) and not the front of the caliper (furthest from the engine). If you move it out with spacers it will eventually clear but then you might as well slap a Puerto Rican flag on the back and cut the springs.

Opps, I'm sorry...that wasn't meant to be racist...but I was watching "I love Toys" on VH1 and they were talking about pimping out a Radio Flyer wagon to get with the times. One of the jokes was to put 22"s on it and a Puerto Rican flag on the back....I thought it was funny because that's all you see in Providence.

WHeels look nice...but expensive. Exels are very similar and much cheaper.

I will paint the calipers eventually.

All I know is the wheels I purchased brand new from Wheel Max started to corode in small spots within just a few months. I know they don't make the wheels, but that and their lack of customer service really left a bad taste.

I also just found these (been looking through my super street magazine....)

http://www.statuswheels.com/wheels/wheels.php?wheel_id=50&brand_id=4

Nakayama Racing's SCHUMACHER R10s....... black with polished lip

18x7.5..... what do you think of those?

They're located in Ft. Lauderdale, about 15 minutes from my address, according to MapQuest...... I'm thinking about stopping by tomorrow (Friday) and getting a price quote, as well as bolt pattern and offset to see if they will indeed fit my car.......... also gonna ask about the weight per wheel.... I definitely will not go heavier than stock, and would prefer to be under 20 lbs.

******-A, today is not my day. The seller in Denver just took cash and sold the rims. He went as far as taking the rims to a Mazda dealer to make sure they'd fit my car...then while I was at band practice he sold them. Grrr... Guess I can't blame him, after all the guy paid cash.

The RX-8 guy said he grinded about 1/2" off his calipers. I don't think I'm ready to do that yet...but I want this style rim. None of the other black/polished designs really grab me. Goddammit. WTF.

Dude.......... Wheelsboutique.com happy hunting you MAY just find something on there that you like...... they have like 44 webpages (about 5 or 6 rims per page) worth of wheels for our car :D

sorry about that loss on your Denver deal.....(fight)

Wheelsboutique.com....are you crazy? It's funny because Mark and I just had this discussion about these basement distributors. All I can say is that if you plan to purchase new, Tire Rack and Discount Tire Direct are my personal top 2 choices. Best quality and service. Please research the company.

no offense but tirerack and DTD don't even list 19 inch sizes for my car....... wtf is that about?

and they don't list offset sizes either, I have to spend time searching online, and some of the wheels they HAVE shown for sale suggest, according to a wheel calculator, that the offset won't fit or is cutting it too close for comfort.

I'm going by a local dealer today..... to be honest I don't want to buy anything online........ unless I see "free shipping" apparently wheelsboutique has free shipping, mounting, balancing according to an ad in Super Street

it also said (except Florida) so it makes me think they're stationed here and I can go to a showroom or something....... I'm gonna check that out :D

I just checked out both......they only offer 18" (with tirerack somewhat having a larger selection, those SSR GT-3s are nice)

The view on vehicle option is stupid though......they're using a base 6.....which, from the side, looks entirely different than a mazdaspeed6....that doesn't help :(

I'm not saying they don't have good quality and service, I'm just saying I'm a little disappointed in the options, because other sites show 19 inch rims for the 6 and speed6 :\
