I Just got a rx-4 off ebay and its got so many problems

hey
i just got my first project car off eBay thinking that the rx-4 with a piston 1.8 motor would be the perfect car to do up. in the add the car looked like gold so i went for it. in the add it said it had miner rust e.g. grads etc. and it was on gas. i thought to myself that the "miner rust would be easy to fix and the gas would be a dream 2 remove. i glazed over they car and make the money transfer when i took it into the light "it was dark" there was so many things wrong. the gas was on dedicated gas no unleaded fuel tank the 4 cylinder engine was running on cylinder 3 and 4 only. the rust was surface area all ova the car like little freckles. and the day after i bought it some one told me that the rx-4 has 2 have a rotary engine for it to be roadworthy. so i feel like i hav been ripped off.... so don't be shy to ask questions to the buyer and hav a good look ova the car before u make the money transfer even if the deal is set hav balls and pull out. there are some good things about my baby tho the interia is perfect with no damage other then a cracked dash and some carpet ripping. the seats are in perfect con (Y). the rust isnt so bad even tho i hav 2 sand back the whole car because of the annoying rust...but i hav sanded back a few of the panels and apply bog and primer so its looking smooth so far. but im currently looking for a rotary engine in a half decent con so i can get a roadworthy. thats the mazda for the ppl who the link doesnt work for.

sorry about the dedicated gas dude! spewin!

i will probably see u this weekend and the work shall continue full speed ahead.

and to clear up about the engine, its the sohc 1.8 which we think is from a 323, its only running on cylidners 3 and 4 because (we assume) the culprit is the gas system, causing cylinders 1 and 2 to burnout the valves and or seats, causing loss of compression, we didnt get a compression tester on there, but thumb test showed nothing, literally 2 dead cylinders.

owell, a worked 12a is going back in there! to compete with the other lightweights (fight)

yes we did get it to spin the wheel, on grass, and in reverse gear LOL. and the only way we could get it sideways on grass was to handbrake, then jump the clutch while sideways.

check my unlucky ass rust :(

Well look at it like this man at least you know whats being done to it and that it is done to your requirements! And you wont have to worry about any rust bubbling up from under the paint later on. You can ensure quality work is done instead of find out later that shotty work was preformed.

A lot of older cars sell for a lot more at auctions because of the fact that they were stripped down and corrected what issues they found by a reputable builder.

i would just drop in a 13b and call it a day. 20b would be nice, but this is a car that doesn't have the handling for a 20b.

Mazzanator, Unless its an RX-4 with 929 Hood, 929 Grill and 929 bumper your car is a actually a Mazda 929.

You can easily indentify by checking the first 3 digits of the chassis number.
Mazda 929 start's with LAV.
Mazda RX-4 start's with LA2.
Even though they look similar 929's usually only sell for about 5-10% of an RX-4's value. There are many other differences like, interior trim, dash board, front brake and sway bar diameter and obviously front cross member and gearbox mounts.

drop a 13B in it, mainly a ported 13B with headers, carb setup, and a side exit exhaust and your car will be golden!!
