I installed a Bomz Intake today, advice needed

OK, I added put a Bomz intake in today. I know nothing about cars, and took me about an hour to figure out. The instructions weren't that clear. This is exactly what they sent me on a single sheet of paper.

Well, my only problem is this. There's nothing really supporting it. It's kinda hanging there, but not really hanging there. You'll kinda see in the pics.

The intake came with 2 metal pieces which I assume are used to support it somehow, but I don't know how.

Right now, the cone is resting on a metal piece that the old airbox used to be mounted to.

Any suggestions as to how to support it??? Should I just take it to Midas and see what they say?

ONe bracket is to brace it.. the other is to relocate the coolant tank.

looks like the same as the Ractive SRI have....

The l bracket need to be manually bent to fit between the cone and be bolted to the bracket where your cone is now resting..... bend it...its easy then twist to make the hole fit whith one of those in the coolant bracket....

They arent saying in the manual that you have to bend the "L" shaped bracket.... thats what is unclear!

Nope, not with this one.

Essentially, you need to take the two brackets and bend them to fit so that they will support the intake. Use the existing hardware; you should have tons hanging around now that your stock intake has been dismantled (you kept that stuff right?).

Just as long as it's supported, you'll be fine. You will most likely have a problem with it rubbing/knocking against the master cylinder, though. That's when you get creative (and search the forum)

bomz = nice name to a ebay intake........... now it is not a bad intake but look at the pic i attached on where to watch out for!!! i used one of my brakets and mounted it to the block......... the other one i used to relocate the overflowtank.
the instructions suck but the intake is decent. i have yet to see a injen beat a ebay intake on a dyno yet!!!

and spend a little more to buy the ebay cold air intake/Injen clone. It has a full rubber/silicone elbow that clears the master cylinder and will not rub.

Can I get those bracket things, that Pretzellogic has in his pic, at Home Depot? Is that string wrapped around the Radiator Hose, near the cone?(that's what it is right?)

I don't think you would feel any vibrations, but you will hear a knocking sound and then you'll notice that you now have a small dent in your pipe. Over time, you can wear a hole through it.

The "string" is actually zip-ties. Basically, this intake is not vehicle-specific, and it's going to knock unless you take some drastic measures. Also, you'll want to replace the filter than came with it with a comperable K&N one.

yea its eBay intake. I had it on my Pro until i got Injen CAI. It came with 2 aluminum brackets, which were really soft and easily bendable. I had to make my own....I went to homedepot and bought a piece of flat long metal about 1 and 1/2 wide and 2 or 3/8 of an inch thick. Cut it, and drilled 2 holes for a supporting L-bracket. One end was mounted to the grounding point (with L-bracket) on the motor and other end was going right under the intake. (I also put some electrical tape so the bracket wouldn't scratch the intake, as intake was resting on the bracket) and that was it. Here ya go. Really old pix hehe from Late 2003. Enjoy

ya when i had mine i went to ace and did pretty much the same thing dis did.

damn that is a old pic............ anyway my bracket is on the lef side of the maf. it held it enough so it did not rub.

It would probably be easier to custom make your own bracket. You could do it if you have a drill, hacksaw, and a vise.

I fixed the bracket thing

I relocated the bracket thing to the other side. Now it hangs off the battery. I had to bend it a little for it to work, but it worked. I also wrapped ties around the radiator hose and pipe to help hold it still.

I felt a little better throttle response, and a little better performance.

Another question. Eventually I want to upgrade to the full Injen CAI, with the filter behind the bumper. How much better performance will that be vs. my new Bomz SRI? Would it be worth the money?

no, buy the injen clone from ebay. My friend bought the injen for almost $300 and I bought my ebay CAI for around $30 shipped... I installed both at the same time and they are totally identical. only thing different is the nicer silicone couplers used..

I bought the AEM short ram intake and it came with brackets welded on. It was only 1$160.00 shipped and new on E-bay. It sits low enough that it gets plenty of cooler air. If not, making your own brackets will probably be the best thing.
