I hate people who cut you off and make you wreck your P5!!!!

(sad1) I wrecked my baby this morning! (sad1)

I was driving to work, slowly inching along in the right-most lane of the Expressway to get on the freeway, when the worst day in my entire P5 experience started. Let me preface this by saying that this stretch of Capitol Expwy(Nbound right before the 680N onramp, if you are from SJ) is notorious for people cutting you off just so their wait to get on the 680 is about 10 seconds shorter.
So there I am inching along when some @$$hole in a booty-@$$ Nissan Punkfinder cutoff a van in front of me, which caused the van to lock up it's brakes while trying to swerve around it. The van hits the Pathfinder and stops. I swerve right to avoid both of them, but either not quick enough or too close, but I introduced my left headlight(and everything behind it, up to the front tire) to the van's right rear bumper!
Immediately my blood starts boiling and swear I heard my car start to cry. All because of the punk-@$$ Punkfinder.
All 3 of us pull to the side of the road, and I immediately jump out of the P5 and run up to the driver of said Punkfinder, who is getting out, and yell, "Thanks a-F*CKING-lot for ruining my brand new car. I really F*CKING appreciate it!" He's looking at me like :wtf:?
He says, "I had a space. I took it. I didn't cut anyone off!" to which I reply :bs:!!!!!
I look at the guy in the van, and he says to the Nissan, "You didn't have a space! You didn't even have a corner! You had an inch! You totally cut me off!"
I am (pissed) at this point, and had to walk away because 1) my point had been made & 2) I didn't want to do anything that i would regret when the cops showed up. I turned around and finally took a look at the (yellowp5). I wish I hadn't.
The front left side looked like a bad twisted sheet metal and broken plastic art exhibit! There were pieces off my headlight all over the right hand lane. I wanted to cry.
Long story short, the cops show up, get all the info, etc. Turns out Nissan guy didn't even have insurance, so the cops gave him a $300 ticket. I took what little solace I could in that. My baby was taken away on the back of a tow truck and I haven't seen her since.
I guess I shold be glad that no one was hurt, but honestly it's hard. I love my P5, and to see her like that broke my heart. The body shop says that I can come visit her if I want and check on the progress, but I think I will wait the 3 weeks it will take to fix her up, and finally see her the way I remeber her.

Sorry for the rant, but I had to get it off my chest.

damn nissan magnets!!!

dude, at least you are safe, but seriously that blows dicks about your car!!!

mine was a little worse but still.. SAME FEELing.. I HATE THAT!!!!!!!!! my heart was so broke after i saw teh car being towed away

Dude - commiserations, my pre-SP20 car was written off when I t-boned an old guy who failed to give way at an intersection. Did the airbag go off? That scared the S*$# out of me. Go and visit the shop while they repair it, your P5 will appreciate you care ;) Mine was going to be repaired until three weeks in when the repair bill was bumping the insured value and the insurer advised to write it off. Thats a heartbreaker. btw if you're gonna have a teary make sure there's noone else around.

Anyway, I almost stacked my SP20 this morning too. On the way to work some joker pulled in in front of the guy in front of me and then the traffic stopped suddenly. Almost ended up in a four car concertina.

ouch!!! i feel your pain, it hurts,...man...that really sucks!!!

i think thats the scariest...on the freeway, where people who drive bad...drive a million times worse...thats why i always let people in...and im always ready on the breaks...

i'll drive with my headlights on tomorrow in your cars memory!:)

let us mourn...and think about all the great memories that car brought...

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident. That really sucks. Unfortunately there are alot of idiot drivers out here in our area....and tooooo much traffic!
I can only imagine how you feel. I too love my car....and was sad even when I had to bring it in for 24 hours for the horn to be replaced(not working...which was discovered when some B almost sideswiped me).
Are you able to get a P5 rental while the car's being fixed? Hertz has em.......maybe that'd help a lil :)

Thanks for all the kind words!

jdm_mp5- Thanks for the tribute.

mazda77- You are probably right. I actually haver to go by the body shop today anyway. I forgot my CD's, and my rental(Mitsu Lancer (yawn) ) actually has a CD player!

Shay Shay- Good idea about the Hertz P5's, but I don't think I can be with another P5. ;)

Sorry to hear that Foggy

Hope you are not hurt though, as to being with another p5 (hertz p5), how about get a rental matrix, have fun with it (not too much fun though) and get first hand experience on how much better our p5s are.;)

Man, after reading all your post I'm starting to think someone's dead!!! Seriously, sorry for your car Man but as long as you're not hurt, all is well. Honestly, I'd feel the same way if it happened to me.

There was a 50 car pile-up on the same road I drive everyday yesterday morning. http://www.canada.com/montreal/story.asp?id={C3291933-376C-4DA2-A7C5-23C2A2660F5A} It happened about 30 minutes after I had passed. Three friends called me to check if I was OK because a guy with reportedly the same first name as me died, he also was from my town and had a red car. One of my friend was crying on the phone when she heard my voice...so if you're alright (yippy)

Red- I am OK. Sorry if there was confusion on this. Nobody has died, but I just really miss my car. If you were driving what I was driving before the P5, (91 Saturn SL2 w/ 208,000 miles, reeked of cig smoke, and had a hole in the front fender the size of Rhode Island) you might be a little overdramatic too. Thanks for the kind words, though. Much appreciated! (drinks)

Incidently, I can't really complain about the Saturn. It was a reliable car about 99.5% of the time. The only major work I ever had to do was get the timing chain replaced. Other then that, I never had a serious problem with. She was a real trooper.

@#$% Nissans! I understand your pain and frustration. This is why I don't carry a gun in the car. Seriously.

I realize that everyone of us has had at least a near miss (if you haven't, you haven't racked up many miles), but cut and run in traffic gains you very little plus it takes a very good driver and there are very few of those out there.

Froggy...my deepest condolences....and I applaude you for not yanking that moron out of his punkfinder and pummeling him there on the spot...i am sure it took GREAT restraint....Bondo Bob is all to familiar with the dreaded nissan beasties out there.....now they have notched their belts once more....grrrrrr.

I certainly hope you took your baby to the best doctor (body shop) you could find....she is certainly worthy, that is for sure.

well good luck....(stash)

Thanks Nuke and Bondo.

I just got back from the body shop and the good news is that the damage looks to only be on the car's "outer skin" (no engine or frame damage). The bad news is that they are unsure if the wiring has been frayed at all by the bent sheet metal. If so, they have to send it back to the dealer to fix, which could add another week to the estimated delivery date. :(
Keep your fingers crossed for me.

A little OT, but my quick review of the rental Mitsu Lancer is: Bland. Bland acceleration, bland interior, just really overall nothing exciting going on here. It is cheap($-wise), but why would anybody want one of these?

That totally sucks! I know for me if I got into an accident with my car it would totally be painful to me. It makes it even worse that if the guy hadn't been such a dickhead that this wouldn't have happened. Sorry to hear.

It's unfortunate that this happened to you and your car, but on the bright side, it can be a "cheap (relatively) lesson" in driving for you.

You have no control what happens to the cars and drivers immediately in front of you on a day to day basis. If you follow the car in front of you so closely that you cannot successfully take evasive maneuvers in near accident situations, you'll likely rear end a few more cars before you figure out exactly WHAT is happening.

On most any busy street, if one car slams on the brakes to avoid a child dashing into the roadway, SOMEBODY a ways back is going to rearend somebody else. If no one is allowing a proper distance between vehicles for the speed, it may be just one or two cars back (as in your case) but even if the first 4 or 5 are properly spaced for the speed, likely somebody back there is either going to hit someone, or there will be cars diving for the ditches.

My daughter rear ended three other cars in her first 6 months of driving - She thought she was never at fault, as "they all just STOPPED." When asked why she didn't just stop, she said she couldn't. End of lesson. If you can't stop when the vehicle in front of you does (for whatever reason) you're going to have many accidents, and get your share of tickets.

Since you evidently were not found at any fault in this one (and belive me, you COULD have been) - You actually got a "free lesson."

Don

Nearly the same thing happened to me just over Labor Day weekend. One guy cuts another guy off a couple cars in front of me. He has to slam on his breaks, so does the minivan behind him, where as I'm a little ways behind and can't see around the fatass minivan, don't realize soon enough that they have come to a dead stop, get cut short and rearend the minivan.... WHAM!

Ohhh...Having to watch helplessly as you realize you won't be able to stop in time for the car infront and you have no where to go is a sickening feeling. All you can do is ride it in. :( Then to get out and see the front end all bashed up....ugh.

Fortunately, no one was hurt, and I hit him strait-on going only a few mph by the time of impact, so there was realitively light damage. Meaning, the hood was crumpled and the bumper was toast, along with the headlights, but the sheet metal wasn't damaged, nor frame or engine, susp. etc. Even at that, the total repair bill still came to $6100!!! :o :bs: s****, for less than three times that I bought the whole car, not just the front facia and a radiator...Thank god for ins!

Your lucky that no one got hurt too, AND the moron who caused the whole thing got caught (the guy in my accident just kept on driving...i wonder if he even knows what he caused... ) I hope your ins company goes after the guy that caused it. What an ass, driving recklessly, w/o ins (and in some useless suv)! I hope he gets screwed for all the other people that cause accidents and don't have to pay for it!

Oh well, I have my car back and it looks like new, and the anger is subsiding...grrrr. I just be more careful to stay back because you never know where the next idiot is coming from. Tailgating to protect your position in traffic is not worth it. As Don said, something can always happen, and its not losing your car, or something worse, for.

something very similar happened to me, but it was when i was first learning to drive (on the freeway)...so anyway, i was on the feeder road and there was this stall car in the far right lane, so i speed up and get around it then get back in the far right lane, when all of the sudden this car pulls out he of shopping strip along the road out of nowhere. i never saw it coming, luckily my dad was with me and he hit the parking break, and i skid....and narrowly avoided disaster...

and this one time, some lady hit my brother, but she didn't have any insurance, even though it was her fault. so basically my brother got nothing and we had to pay for it all....:wtf:

the best thing you can do is, put yourself in the safest position to not get hit.

sorry guys :(
