I had a check engine light saturday night and, today, it's off again.

I did 400 miles on saturday and 300 were at a constant 80mph. Well, 20 miles from home the check engine light goes on - solid, not flashing. at the time I was driving (as, I said 80) over concrete motorway and the car was really vibrating/whining, through the tyres, over the horrid road surface.

3 subsequent short journeys and the light is still on. and, the 4th, it was off.

I've booked the car (2013 diesel) in to get it checked on wednesday, but will the code still be there in the system for the dealer to check?

Edit: it's occurred to me this should be in the engine section. Can a mod move it please?

The code will likely still be there on Wednesday. Here in the US, you can go to most any auto parts store and they will check codes for you for free, no appointment needed, 7 days a week.

You can get a $5-15 obd2 reader from ebay and a free app called torque for a phone/device and see pull the code.
