I got lucky today...

Turn the key to the "on" position, depress the clutch pedal and leave it pushed in. If you're going to roll the car forward to pop-start it, put it in first gear.

You are better off in 2nd gear. Less of a jarring shock to the tranny in second.

I'll have to try that next time I need to pop start it. It definitely is a jostling type of maneuver.

I had never heard of this before...I will have to try it next time I am on a sloped driveway. So when you let of the clutch the car just starts??? You don't have to turn the key at all?

Okay - works either going forward or rolling backwards...

If you're going to roll the car backwards to pop-start it, put it in reverse. Roll the car forward or backwards...let your foot off the clutch...ta-da - car should start.

That's one of the first things my Dad taught me when I was learning to drive. :) Yay for manual transmissions, eh?

Or you could just get new battery....sheesh....

I don't believe in luck.

*only works with manual transmission.

..but yeah, you need to be rolling pretty well, but once you let the clutch out, the rotation of the wheels/driveshafts will turn the motor over, and then it's running.

The ol' Cap'n always rights things :).

That's a pretty crappy situation. I'm glad that he let you go.

The key has to be in the "on" position...

By the way, she cranked up just fine this morning...and then again, no hesitation at all after I put fuel in it on the way to work. Maybe the poor car was just traumatized from the situation. :p

Thanks, I got that from your first post, I just wanted to be sure that you didn't have to turn the key again as your rolling. I got it now.

He wouldn't have been able to jump you anyways. They have about $30000 worth of electronics in there cars. That is very against policy.

I will, but it's not in the budget at the moment...

I hear ya. I can't believe you haven't sold your rims yet. I bet once the season gets closer, and people start getting tax returns they will go in a hurry.

hmm i guess not being home i have missed this thread but i got lucky myself yesterday i was doing 70 in a 45 test driving a car for work...well more of play driving...Anyway, cop pulls me over comes up to the window and he asks if i work for the dealership (no tag on the car and i have my tech shirt on) so i say "good morning sir and yes i work for the dealership" and without missing a beat before he can even say anything i pull this outa my ass "and i am just out checking for a rattle in this car aroud 60-65". He says "ohh ok so your just opening her up then" he inspects my licsense and the work insurance, hands it back to me and tells me to have a nice day and i thanked him and told him the same. Ohh yeah should probably mention this was in a manual NA mini lol

It took me 2 hrs to put in the battery. I had to take off the intake box. God it is a pain. Get Kory to do by taking off ur struct tower bars with an impact wrench. :)
