I fueled up the MS3 for the first time today... question.

um, do what i do with the m3 put it ontop of the pump....that is if its fully retractable. if its like the p5 i gently let it hang on the car.

Sounds like that may work. I think I'm going to try to remove the hanger thing and put it in the other hole... maybe it'll be far enough out that it won't hit the car.

The fuel door has some sort of a contraption that is obviously meant to hold the cap but I haven't figured out exactly the way it's meant to be used but i found that if you face the white part of the cap towards the inside of the fuel door it stays in place.

I did that and it fell out and dinged off the car. Luckly there were no scratches.

Then just cut the cord and put it somewhere else. You guys seem paranoid over something so small.

agreed.... there is no place to hang my cap... I just take the little bit of extra concentration and gently set it against the car.

satisfactory or not, its worked - with no damage seen so far.

My VW had a "hanging" type system that over time popped the fuel cap off of the car (by the plastic tether line) when that happened I just started setting it on the back window or gas pump.

its really not that serious.

Sweet, I thought I was the only one who couldnt figure this out lol. I look at it and see somehow it can hang, but its like a puzzle. I just rested it very gently on my car, but it might suck when you have to gas up in a full service only state like n.j.

I will try it on my MS3 but I just figured out my wifes car since it has the same contraption. Yesterday what I did is turned the white threaded part of the cap toward the door and it held it perfectly. The twist part on the cap faces outward away from the door and it will hang onto there.

thats what i thought...and contacted mazda about it...they said NO..its NOT meant for placing the cap on there

After owning German cars for the past 18 years, I'm still trying to remember to pull the $%*& gas door release before walking to the back of the car.

On my MS6, I can hook the edge of the cap on a little bracket that sticks out. It stays most of the time. I really can't explain it without a photo...and I'm too lazy to do that.

Yeah, I do this thing where I can hang it by this sunken part running around the cap:

If you look at the side of the cap, theres this sunken channel that's maybe 1 mm wide. Then on the right side of the door to the filler neck, there's a piece of sheet metal bent in an "L". Stick that into the channel as seen below:

I do the same as moledonuts and elderly. Sometimes it doesn't hold properly, pops off and dings the car. Makes me mad. =(

I don't let full service fill up my car. The friggin guy always keeps walking towards the pump trying to fill up my car even after I tell him I'll do it myself.

So you pay full-service price for gas and fill it up yourself? Why not just find another pump, or another station?
