I feel like a noob.

I just bought an 08 mazda 3.. with 6 miles on it. I love it. Its great, runs awesome... I'm digging everything.

But when I'm at stop lights- it makes a noise like a helecopter in the distance. Very faint and only when I'm stopped. Everyone so far says it just has a break in period.. true or false.

Anddd NOW tonight this little light in the RPM circle has gone off. Its an exclamation point inside a shape like a horse shoe. Urgh.

Super frustrated. I dont have an owner manual, because they had to get me one. For some reason my car was missing it. I do not know what that light is and I do not know if the noise is normal.

Bare with me- I come from a 98 serbring convertible!

Generally speaking if the exclamation mark is red, it probably shows low pressure in any kind of circuits (brake, cooling system, else?). I don't know particularly about your car, so don't freak out. Anyhow, why don't you give a call at the dealer you bought the car, or if it's not an authorised mazda dealer, at a mazda shop?

Take a further step and check all the fluid levels of the car(brake, coolant, oil etc) , plus the tyre pressure.

Yellow exclamation point in a yellow horseshoe looking thing is the low tire pressure warning. Check your tire pressure. As for the helicopter noise at idle, that is probably just the normal sound of the injectors. It shouldn't be very loud, though. Good luck.

I also have an '08 3, with the 2.3 liter motor. Like others have stated, the "little light in the RPM circle that looks like an exclamation point inside a shape like a horse shoe" is your TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) alert. Set your tires to the proper pressure and drive it around for 5-10 minutes and it'll go off. I can't offer up any info about the "helicopter sound". I've never heard it. Or at least I don't think I have. (dunno)
