I broke my Tranny!?

I broke my damn tranny.... I thought that these trannies could handle more power??? So now I'm stuck w/ no ride until I find out how much it will cost to fix or replace! If anyone knows of where I can get a used tranny or fix the one I already have or, in the Miami FL area it will be very appreciated!!!! I also wanted to know the tranny code if anyone knows?

Thanks
Paul

If it's broken, and you want to keep putting down the same power as what caused it to break, you should upgrade what you have and not just replace it.

can you import a msp lsd equipped tranny from japan?...these would be the best option as they are factory made for a turbo'd protege engine...i'm really interested in this

NC_MP3 our resident tranny expert where you at?
Sorry paul that sucks...man and you dont even dog your car out
:(

Hey how much power do you think you were pushing to the wheels and what exactly(if you know)did you break?

It will cost almost 2 grand + to get the tranny done over

Well what happened was I was going up one of the bridges to get to work and I was in third gear going like 30-35 mph and then I heard a loud snap and the shifter came out of third... the car began to shake I thought that I had blown my engine cause of the turbo but nope its the stupid tranny! I think that I put to much stress on the tranny when I was going up the bridge. to be honest, Im tired of spending money on my car its not worth it or maybe Im just ****** pissed off right now! But bruce95fmla hey thanks alot for the info Im gonna call and find out Ill let everyone know what happening tomm.

what exactly is a "Limited Slip Differential Transmission" (scratch)
Don't think I've ever heard of those.
I hope you are being satirical, but a lsd is a differential that sense wheel slippage and apportions more power to the wheel that doesn't slip...it helps eliminate the 1 wheel burnout and mitigates torque steer

He probably knows what a Limited Slip Diff, but you added the term Transmission on there. Its not a tranmission, just part of it.
That is were the confusion happen. Thinking you were talking about a whole trammission and not part of it.

i understand your point but my post said "lsd equipped transmission" meaning it is a transmission that has an lsd in it...i never called it a "lsd transmission"

i know mazda sold the MSP in Japan and may have available trannies they can ship over to us as i've imported several engines and trannies for Honda cars i've built...i'd rather have a factory tranny that was massaged to handle the extra power than to take the stock tranny and just switch the open diff to an lsd (i've read several posts of people blowing trannies with turbos)

Understand, just pointing out where the confusion may have happened at.
And yes you can import the whole assembly, in fact you can get most parts from the Familia even the FS-JZ engine (1200-1400)

Oh btw, where in Northern Virginia do you live? My roommate owns a 89 Rex with ZC motor and various internal mods. Should be running this weekend after a blown head gasket due to crappy aftermarket head studs. Just order new ZC from ZC Bros Racing, after that it should be going again. :)

Do you know of any businesses that can ship the tranny over?

I'm from Herndon and have an 88 CRX HF with a d16a6 in it and am slowly building another d series motor to accept a 14b turbo and run 12-13 psi. As for head studs ARP makes the best units along with using the "updated" honda stock headgasket (stock "updated" honda studs are also pretty good)...you can get them cheap from www.manhonda.com

Nah forget who shipped it over, someone else posted a link with regards to getting the motor.

ARP does make nice head studs, however it is those that is causing all the problems. When tightening to them to 20pounds (first tightening pattern) the bolts would actually loosen the studs right out of the block. They just keep slipping. We finally got all the studs tighten, but they will just slip out of the final torque spec. The gasket didn't really blow casuse of them, but instead cause of crappy installation by the shop. The guy didn't tighten them enough, meanwhile tightening others way beyond their specs. Example: the bolt on the crank pulley was WAY over tighten..WAY WAY over. Grrr least he is out of business now.

So just going back to the stock ZC studs since they are all one assembly, similar to the #1 stud.

Good luck with your other install maybe we'll see you at Summit Raceway sometime :)

Sweet, will try to make it then.
And if we got another AE86, and a silver top perhaps enter in the drift compentation if they repeat it this year. :D
