I have had my deck like this ever since I got it and I never take the face plate off. Looks ugly but I'm waiting to put a gauge panel there.

As much as I can appreciate very good sound quality, in my car I don't care that much. It's a car.. I'm usually driving, which means road noise, rattles, etc to contend with. Plus, when it is warm enough, I have the windows down 24/7 so there's a ton of wind noise to contend with. Hell, I'm happy with my MSP door speakers and infinity basslink. they get the job done.

When I want good audio quality, I step inside and put on my grado headphones. I doubt you could ever get an in-car system in a protege to sound that good while driving.

exactly, thats why I don't care about adding anything that adds useless weight to the car... my s*** works, so it's sufficient... performance > looks

"I have this Pioneer, and the lights match just perfect on mine."

if you think turquoise matches with orange.... i had that on my corolla... someone stolen it :( i think cda 9856 is better

The red lights on the button of my Pioneer not the LCD Display. I don't care much about the color of the LCD display.

I too thought that the stock system was simply effecient. Note that I have a 2003.5 with the stock powered sub, stock sill tweeters, Alpine in front doors and Boston Acoustics in rear doors for fill. I never planned to updated my HU, but with a new freebie Alpine unit with dash kit I could not resist.

The difference is night and day. The Alpine puts out way more power off the HU, and audio adjustment control is fantastic especially with the Bass Engine. Simply put, I'd take function over simply matching colors of display.

Your XM/sirius tuner is contributing to the light pollution problem in the world :D

*looks at your odometer* .. I hate you.

did that carbon fiber gauge frame come stock with your 2003.5? If not where did you get it?

if you're right about this, the unit must be wayyy underrated. I think it's pretty loud, in terms of treble and mids..

must be just mine then, because my stock system sounds terrible. Sure it gets loud, but there are no highs in it.. with my mid, and high turned up full, it doesn't sounds clear at all.. Honestly, it sounds like muffled sound, like someone is singing into a cup.. almost a hollow sound....

fawkit

I had one of those kick-ass motorized kenwood KDC units and that s*** got stolen quick!

Q: When do you think the best time is to break into a car and gank the stereo s***?

A: In the middle of a crazy ass blizzard!

Imagine walking out to your car early in the morning after a major blizzard to see all four doors open, door panels torn off and a snow drift blown up into the interior.

Mind you I am just a regular guy that nobody would care to mess with but this is what happens. I didn't do anything to get my stereo jacked but simply putting in a nice head unit is a great way to increase the chances of your car getting broke into. Too many desperate cock smokers out there trying to get theirs by taking yours.

Now that I'm back to stock I'm at peace. I had to get ALL new speakers of course but now nobody assumes I have a nice component system with a sub in the hatch. As soon as you put an aftermarket stereo in your ride it gives theives the thought of what else could be in your car. An alarm don't do s*** in a snow storm either.

Don't be a fool - stay stock suckaz! And don't do drugz!!

Got myself an Alpine CDA-9847, I think it's the 2004 model.

Installed, it looks darker than the picture. The light silver parts in the picture are actually a gunmetal color, and the rest of it is black, so it looks really "stealth" in the car when it's dark. It also has a removable faceplate, and it's got color options for all the buttons. I set it to the amber setting and it matches the gauges and controls in the car perfectly.

A friend here (Crazee D) purchased it from DG Motorsports for cheap money because the radio surround was damaged in spots. So, I simply cut it and used the side pieces.

IMO it's decent. It's one small speaker (5" I believe) in a ported enclose powered with a max of 100 watts. This comes from many years of all kinds of crazy installs. You won't hear ultra low end, but for mid bass punch it gives you much more kick than just the door speakers that's for sure.

yeah you lucked out getting a 2004 model, they've gone downhill since then :)

Yeah my alpine doesn't look too flashy when it's off. I park in a garage at night and during the day at work in a really nice town or at school on a safe college campus in teh suburbs so I'm not worried. If I ever do park in a parking garage downtown or some other shady area, yeah I pull the faceplate.

my clarion pro audio 735mp old school 2002 model matches whatever. i can change the colors between 5. they matched my old protege, the red in my chevy, the green in the accord, and now the red in my p5. i will never get rid of that stereo. it looks like complete ass right now and i have no good way to mount it, but it's in the p5.
