I have an '07 Mazda3, when I use my Ipod using the factory installed AUX jack and recharge the ipod at the same time a humming sound is heard on my Audio. I think this is a ground loop issue, any suggestions on how to avoid this.

Don't charge it while you want to listen to it. lol, That's the only thing I have found which sucks because my iPod won't hold a charge for more then one song.

That's possible, but the charging is most likely DC, which seldom hums. I'd suspect a poor audio connection, most likely in the shield of the connection.

You do in fact have a ground loop. The audio input on the 3 is notorious for this when charging a player. Grab a ground loop isolator and you'll be fine. Radio Shack sells a RCA-RCA one (comes with one RCA-3.5mm adapter), or you can order a 3.5mm-3.5mm one from www.crutchfield.com. I'd suggest that one since otherwise you'd have two extra connections in the loop (two adapters) and you'd have to buy a second adapter.

Buy this and /thread

Been there done that...buy this little gem and your issues will be solved. Works perfectly.

re: noise

Will this ground loop isolator elimnate my alternator noise in the aux input? I have my Sirius Starmate 4 running into the aux input in the cetner console of my 2007 - '3. My Ipod make no noise when plugged in there, just the satellite. And i had the power plugged in to the power outlet in the center console too, which i just fixed with a hard wired power supply finally. Still did not eliminate the noise even though the power and aux cables are seperated. I would assume there is no noise from the atenna due to it being digital, so i don't see 12V issues being a problem.

Send your ipod to Apple with a return envelope/package postage paid. It will be returned to you with a new battery. Make sure you put all your information though, Name: Address: Phone: You can get the ship to address from the apple site. I have done it twice now.

Assuming that the ipod is not being charged while playing (thus why it's not making noise), then yes a GLI will fix the problem you have with your starmate.
