HU Installation

Hey guys I've finally decided on what I'm doing with my new 06 4 door. I'm going with a CarPC because there is all kinds of cool things you can do with that. However...In the meantime I want to install my older HU (JVC unit - bout a year old or so, touchscreen LCD, etc). i've been to crutchfield numerous times and they still don't have any information on installing it in my car.

The big questions here are, does anyone have instructions on getting the HU out and what kind of harness I need? I've got the Bose system but no navigation so the Crutchfield guy said he wasn't sure if their standard harness will work or not.

I had to take out the HU to connect the OEM Sirius receiver (and save a couple hundred bucks for installation) and it's pretty simple.

You just need to pop off the long thin gray piece of trim going from the display over to the passenger side of the car (be careful not to break any of the connecting tabs). I believe there are 4 or 5 tabs, one to the left of the display, the rest to the right. Easiest way to get it out is pull towards you near the middle to disconnect those tabs, then slide the whole piece to the right as there is a small slot piece that slides under the glove box trim. The hardest tab to get out is the one to the left because you have to pull it almost to the point of breaking to get it out.

Once you get that piece off, just unscrew the two screws on top of the HU and it should just pull out.

Any ideas on the adapter? Also, looking at the Crutchfield kit I noticed it has the top piece as a pocket (where my trip computer is as well as my climate control information). Is this piece required for the aftermarket kit installation or no? I really don't want to lose my trip computer or climate control settings for obvious reasons. yeah dude, don't put in your hu.... you will loose all your xtra display information, that lil lcd screen is part of your HU.... sorry

What do people do then? The Crutchfield guy didn't think that pocket piece was required but I wanted to ask on here first. Is there a different kit? I found one on CarDomain (for a 2005 - they still don't offer 06's for some reason) that didn't seem to have that piece (Scoche or something?).

I can't lose that stuff but I want MP3s without too much rewiring. Plus I already have that HU and while I could sell it, I was hoping to get some more use out of it first. Mainly because the factory HU sucks in comparison to the JVC (seven band EQ, MP3s, touchscreen, etc). My biggest complaint is the lack of any form of EQ for the factory HU. I don't expect anything more from a factory unit but it would suck if I was stuck with it...

there is no way around it if you want to keep your display you have to keep you hu.. if you want to get mp3s there are many different ways to put your personal player in your car with out having to use the damn fm modulator... do a search for it in the mazda 3 section...

Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing here...this is the piece that has my climate stuff, says "Bose Stereo" when I turn the system on, has the temperature stuff, etc. This kit doesn't seem to look like it even comes with something that requires taking that piece out?

That says it is for an 05 Mazda3s...is my 06 3s GT that much different?

If so and I've got to keep the HU...what EQ options are available for me? Having only Highs and Lows plus that ACL thing aren't enough for me. I want multi-band equalization

that piece is attached to your HU and will become the lil pocket you see in the top of that kit.... you can go with a JL clean sweep i believe they have equilization options and it will get rid of the factory presets for "bose" optimal sound and give you a line in as well... though its about 400$$
