I took some vid yesterday of a very nice sounding truck, and I'd like to seperate the audio from it to use as my start-up/shutdown. How do I do this (shrug) ? I do have Nero 6, if that will work.

TIA!

are you able to input the sound into the computer? i.e. a line in or rca-in?

If so, hook up the video camera to the front of the computer. Then open up sound recorder (start - programs - accessories - entertainment - sound recorder).

Next, make sure sound recorder is properly set up (edit - audio properties). Click the "volume button" in the sound recording section. Select either wave or "what u hear".

If everything's set up right, the computer will record any sound that's going to the speakers. Click the record button in the program, press play on the video camera. Once finished, use the simple editing tools to get what you want.

Save and voila. That's how I got my sound bytes for my startup and shut down.

Actually, I took the vid with my digi cam, so it's already digital and 'in' the computer. I've tried using the Windows sound recorder, but when I try to play it back, there's nothing there. Plus, for whatever reason, it's limited to 60 seconds. ????

I'm sure I can use Nero to do this, but I just don't know how.

if you have the sound recorder set to either "what u hear" or "wav", you will be able to record the sound. And honestly you won't want a startup or shut down sound being more than like 30 seconds or it gets annoying hehe.

Duh, stupid me - I didn't see the checkboxes under the different sections in the volume panel. I got it - now I just have to play with it a bit to get it just right. I'll post it when I'm done, it sounds sooooo good (too bad our cars can't sound like this).

Well, I got it. Now I can't decide if it should be startup, shutdown, or both :D

And you're wrong - I could listen to this all day and not get tired of it. I'm just sorry I didn't get him opening it up totally (the road was too short, and there we too many people around). You have no idea how warm and tingly I get listening to stuff like this, it gives me some very naughty thoughts...(naughty)

that car does sound durrrty. maybe isolate one of the rev ups to make it a startup sound?

Glad you figured it out. I'm currently working on a p5 sound scheme 8-)

You can use Windows Movie Maker to strip the audio off (though I'm not sure if you can actually save the audio as a seperate file). I know in Sony Vegas you can do that, which is what I use for all my video editing.
