How To: Progress 22mm Rear Swaybar Installation

yeah, 5-6 months out of the year, we have salt being sprayed all over the roads, and no time to wash the car down to get it off.

Yeah, I'm in VA and although I don't really know where the car came from before I got it mine were still rusted on nice and tightly. Fortunately I was able to remove mine from the struts where they had been broken off a year or two ago for my spring install.

njaremka, I just realized you location says Auburn, NY. I got lots of family over in Seneca county. I used to go up there every year when I was younger but not so much anymore. Not really a car scene up there, huh?

nope, just a lot of ricer boyz. i live in auburn, work in seneca falls.

I have had my AWR endlinks installed with my Progress bar for a little while now and the are making a knocking sound when I go over bumps. I have the endlinks in the tightest position with the ends screwed all the way into the body. Could this be why they are knocking? If so what is the best length to adjust the endlinks to?

^^^ Probably not. I have mine set that the bar is as horizontal as it can get without touching the control arms and mine makes noise as well. It doesn't really bother me; just another rattle in the chorus of rattles, shakes, bumps, etc. that my car makes.

So there is no way of getting rid of the noise other than to buy an expensive ass bracket hugh?

Guess not because when I installed mine I made sure everything went in smoothly and tightened snugly. I was afraid to tighten the bolts any more because the little rubber thing was already squeezed quite a bit.

Try making the AWR's the same length as the stock ones and tighten them down. I'm on the stock endlinks, and there's no clunking at all, but I can see where it would clunk.

^^^ That is my next thought. I'm going to pick up a set of used endlinks here one of these days and if the noise ever starts to get to me that is what I will do. The AWRs are definitely beefier and will probably be able to stand up to more stress down the road when I go with coilovers.

The stockers are plenty beefy. Remember, the only firce o nthe endlinks is a striaght up and down, ot a sideways force. Thicker wouldn't do much, and in my opinion the AWR's leave too much room for movement.

Yah the P5's are shorter than that I know. Anybody with a P5 that can do this measurement for me?
I just did a quick measurement with a tape measure and from bolt center to bolt center I got about 6.25" give or take about 1/16-1/8". I hope this helps some.

Yeah, but you have to consider the movement is to allow for the use of just about any swaybar out there. Now that I think about it I probably could have installed mine a little better. The mounting tab on the strut is not oriented the same way as the tab on the swaybar (in my application) but I currently have it so my endlinks are aligned the same way. I'm thinking if I rotate the top a little to be inline with the tab on the strut and leave the bottom inline with the swaybar I might reduce some noise. Like I said though, it doesn't really bother me so much so it isn't a priority.

Thanks Magnum. I will try that length and see if it helps the clunking at all

True, but the irony is that they don't seem to work with anything designed for the Protege. Everyone has problems with them.

Will do. I did use the stuff that came with the sway bar but I guess that wasn't enough.

How come you didn't go with the AWR swaybar?? Just wondering. I know its 21.5 compared to Progress 22mm.
