Within the ECU you always find the VIN number, the firmware number and the label code of the ECU.
Here is an example from a MS3:
Firmware Build Date: 20070309
VIN Number: JM1BK34L0717#####
Firmware number: L39SEE0WZ01
Upon reading the firmware out I would like to decode the VIN so I can determine if the user has a MS3/MS6/M3/M2 as some are not yet supported and sometimes I get an updated revision that I need to build a definition for.
Other carmakers have the exact details of which year and engine digit corresponds to which engine, or what chassis and trim level the car is. Mitsubishi for example is here for 2004 models: http://www.mitsubishicars.com/media/owners/pdf/04VINs.pdf
Online VIN decoders are sorta useless because I actually need the possible values for the engine, make, model etc codes.
Does anyone have documentation that shows exactly how the VIN or Firmware numbers work?
Thanks
Michael
