How to cover chrome appearance on roof rack rails?

My chrome looking roof rack rails stick out like two infected, gangrene thumbs. To remove the rails involves removing the headliner etc. I can see Mr. Murphy grinning at me while attempting this, so I'll pass. Is a vinyl wrap a good option or plasti-dip? There is a sharp angle on the outside of the rail so I'm not sure how well a wrap would do.

Suggestions? Thanks!

I recall seeing someone use 3M vinyl wrap but that it needed to be redone and they were considering getting them painted…Don’t know what they ended up doing but another possibility is checking with professional installers and or body shops if it’s within your budget.

You could also inquire how much it would cost to have a pro remove/replace the rails vs covering them…I’m sure there are others here who have dealt with this mod…Keep us updated, it would be great to see pics of the results!

I had thoughts of Hyperdipping them when I did the emblems but decided not to due to the size of them. My guess is at least 3-4 cans to do both.

So I contacted a local tint shop to get a quote on having them wrapped. He said, to do it properly he'd want to remove them and it was going to be around ~$300 (forget the exact number) to do the pair. He advised that if I was going to have them removed to just have them powder coated as the wrap would eventually fade given the exposure to UV rays and the process would need to be repeated. Needless to say they are still silver. ;)

Another option is to trade yours in for a new Hybrid Premium trim which comes with black roof rails from the factory. ;) Only way that I have seen to get them factory on the CX-50.
