How to Change my Alternator on my 2000 Protoge ES, 1.8L, 5sp

I have the old Alt loose and disconnected. But I can't figure out how to get the darn thing out from under the motor. Won't come out from the top, can hardly see it from the top. Won't physically fit thru the bottom either. Does anybody have any tips or know how on what I need to do to get the old Alt out and the new 1 in?

Jack up your car, drive shaft will be lower so you'll be able to get it out

I know this is a very old thread, but I unbolted the exhaust after the primary cat and removed all of the hangers. This allowed me to move the exhaust about six inches and easily remove the old alternator and install the new one.
