how much money in your speed3?

This whole $$ MOD argument is relative. No right or wrong here, just do what makes you happy, life is too damn short.

Clear film - $675.00
Rear step plate covers - $40.00

Beyond that I plan to do an intake, coilovers, wheels, and maybe a small stereo upgrade. These cars are nearly perfect from the factory.

this thread starting to turn into hater just being hater.....i dont even want to put a list on here....i might get flamed....(flame2)

Regardless of whether you're saving the money for mods, going out for lunch everyday is a dumb idea anyway. Y'know, Sam Walton used to get $5 haircuts and drive a rickety-old pickup to work.

Just sayin'.

true, but this is how i justify my prudence, especially when i really want that $7 dollar chipotle burrito..

I dont get what you mean, besides lacking an air straightener, which is a $7 plastic part, it is a flawless piece that allows people to get cold air and keep warranty if needed. hell it is even carb certified.

and its only $200 more than any other intake that will only work just as good.
i dont know why people get so paranoid about an aftermarket intake voiding your warranty. they cant do that. even if your dumb enough to take your car in to the dealership with a CEL they will just tell you to put your stock intake back on and come back to have them fix the problem. i was just at a mazda dealership yesterday for an oil change with a cobb intake and they didnt say s*** about it.

it's more because its a "genuine mazda part". like buying coke or store brand soda. Some dealers suck and will void your warranty for just an intake, I have seen it done and it is completely legal for them to do to you under the right circumstances...it's modifying the engine to run different than stock, so ya, people get paranoid. I am friends with the manager at my dealer and can bring in my car with coilovers/ cattless dp/ fmic/ bov/ intake and other little goodies and they dont say a thing. but for some thats not the case so paying $200 more just makes sense.

sooo... your saying you got a dp/fmic/bov but your friends with the manager at the dealership so you can get away with all the basic mods, but when it comes to the intake it makes more sense to spend $200 more so your warranty doesnt get voided? yea that make a whole lotta sense.

What doesn't make sense about it? He's saying he's getting away with mods cause he's friends with the manager. He's also saying that for people who ARE NOT friends with the manager, it sometimes makes sense to pay some more to get a part that still covered by the warranty.

haha yeah it sure does. Subie killer: clearly I dont want to spend more money on something if i dont have to. Sergius64 might have made it more clear for you......When I got the car and got the intake, I didnt know the manager at the dealer then nor did i know that i would be modding the car this much...so it was worth it at the time. Many people are in the same boat. Now I say **** it because I am bolted up and know people in high places that can help me out.

oh ok, i got you. just keep in mind though when the day comes, you go in with your motor or turbo blown that good friend of yours isnt gonna risk losing his job over giving you special treatment. and its not gonna matter what kinda intake you got with all those other mods is all im saying.

The truth be told, knowing and being friends with the manager only gets you so far. I worked in the service department for Mazda for 2 years and when you go in there with that MAJOR problem and the regional warranty rep want to either 1. Have the tech take pictures and e-mail them to him or 2. Stop by and look at the problem--- All before any Warranty work is authorized, thats when you get screwed on your warranty. Those are the guys that really dont take no s*** when it comes to warranty, After all thats what Mazda pays them to do.......VOID WARRANTIES!!!

Both of you are very right. Ya there's only so much they can do for you. when you mod your car thats the risk you take and accept. if i blew my motor I would not roll it in there like this and ask for warranty. The manager is the dad of a friend I have known since elementary school so he will do whatever he can for me. All parts i get at employee discount, and he lets me pay the mechanic under the table for work if needed.
