How much gain from CAI?

Simple question...
If I throw a CAI into my stock MSP setup, how much horsepower to I expect to gain?

to the wheels? maybe 2-3? Dont believe injen's website they always beef up their numbers.

You wont gain much peak whp, but you will gain whp on the rest of the curv. So basically you gain more on non-peak spot on the curv, that is how I see the benefit of this mod !!!

Honestly, I haven't heard good things about the Injen despite the fact that 1/3 of the MSP owners on here seem to have it.

iON's CAI gained 29 midrange whp on an MSP with just the iON FMIC.

I'm eager to see how much Perrin's SRI gains.

Yeah, I believe that about as far as I can throw it.(blah)

Hi,

In term of hp gains, I didn't noticed a huge change.... but what I noticed most is that the turbo spools at 3000rpm instead of 3500 giving a harder acceleration. Also, having a better air/fuel ratio will give you a slight improvement on your gaz consumption.

(But the best of all is the loudness of the bov after you put the CAI... heads will turn when you shift hard)

I noticed a difference in mine, but I think its due to the fact that i installed my injen, turbohoses, and new sparkplugs all at the same time. I must say I never thought it would make the turkey THAT loud! I think its almost worth the money just for the sound of that whoooooosh followed by the gobble!

I don't really notice a power difference with the AEM. Sound is much better, though.

Have you noticed the rpm your tubo was spooling before and now? Like I said earlier, mine spools 500rpm lower so you get more power a little bit sooner.

That was to be my second question... What kind of improvement will I see in my gas mileage? :)

There has been so much debate on this.... All the "serious" articles I've read (written by engineers, not by marketing dept.) mention modests gains but nothing like some companies that sell CAI want us to believe. Colder air is more dense, so more power but only to a certain point cuz we are also limited by the compressor inlet (fot N/A engines, an intake -especially dynamic- can make more of a diff.)
Anyways, it all depends on how testing is done which boils down to scientific "honesty". For instance, I was surprized by the dyno sheets that a very reputable company (BMC) is showing with their dynamic carbon intake, they seemed low (about 4-6 HP) compared to the likes on Injen AEM..., but I trust their testing waaaay more (they made filters for the Ferrari F1 winning team). So I figure that about 4-5-6 WHP is what we really get with a CAI, more than that is prolly just a marketing hype IMO

That was exactly my earlier point... you dont get much gain on the peak WHP but get a much better curve until the peak :) !!!

It was the 1st mod that I put on. 90% of my driving is on the highway. The INJEN made a big difference in the upper RPM driving range. I love the sound of it as well. Too much is made over the amount of gain! Its not a high hp type of mod. You would be better off on saving your dollars for something else if you want a big gain. I highly recommend the INJEN or any other CAI over the stockbox or adding a panel filter. Thats my opinion based on driving my MSP for 35,300 miles!

I have the AEM ... dyno results say about 2.7 - 3 .... you feel nothing different.
