How much do clutches cost?

So just wondering, how much do clutch replacements cost? I'm a new driver/stick shift driver and I'm worried about wearing my clutch. My MP3 has 88k miles and has have 5 owners and I don't know what condition it's in. Also, how do I tell if it's worn? Thanks!

few warning signs: distinct burning smell, soft clutch pedal, slippage, sometimes even trouble engaging into gear (altho that may be other problems)

88k miles is pretty low miles. and i dunno how much they cost. never bought one, hopefullllyyyy wont be buying one for a while
