How many think the VW R32 is overpriced? I sure as hell do!

I get my new AutoWeek yesterday, and glance through it getting to the story on the new R32. Sure; it's really nice! AWD, 240HP - but $29,995.00. **** That! (crazy)

For me; there are other (better) options for that kind of money. I think $26,995.00 is more in line.

iu say 20,000 no more. there is no car there. the damn 350Z is base 29,000 and it is a whole lot more car. if it looks like a golf it looks like no more than 20,000

I'd get a WRX w/ the 25 grand and put the rest into mods or I would get an Evo that still gives me the AWD plus 31 extra horses, plus add in the fact that I don't trust VW for a single minute.

i don't know, i think it is arround the price range it should be at. honestly, the fully loaded GTI FWD only and 1.8T motor is about 22,000....the 20th anni. with body kit, bigger rims, 1.8t as well is about 24-25K and well for 5K more you get AWD, bodykit, 240HP (instead of the 180 1.8T) and dual exhaust.

another thing you have to think about though is that it isn't pure muscle sports car, it is a sport luxury car. it is like a sunday driver that can kick most cars butts lol. if you want to mod it...then yes since it is N/A stock and the large displacement value, it will be a beast when modded. so honestly this thing has more potential than the EVO or the STI as far as motor mods have.

so as i stated above, its at the price range it should be at for what you get with it.

The R32 is situated in the marketplace behind the STI and EVO, it doesn't offer as much power or agility, but it offers a s*** load more creature comforts which is what VW is after. They are targeting upscale customers in there entire product range. You can see this in the styling of all their models. I'm not sure about the EVO or STI, but the R32 is extremely limited. Its not even available in Canada!! So the small production #'s does not allow VW to make the best out of mass production #'s like other manufacturers.

As Far as modding the beast. It's a 3.2 litre VR6 with 6 gears and AWD. APR in Vancouver has been doing crazy s*** with VR6 motors for the last while using factory & Factory Authorized parts direct from Germany. The old 2.8 single-cam VR6's have been putting down numbers in the area of 450 HP. There is also a golf in Sweden with a 3.2 pumping 900hp. This car has great potential, VW purposely left it this way because of their target market..............if you build it, they will come

i have a GTI and its about the same size as most other cars.... i have more cargo room and passenger room too than most other cars. not to mention its much faster than your car also.

Go sit in one, test drive it for a day, & finish it up with a day at the track (not 1320, I mean the REAL track) & you will have a new appreciation for the R32.

1. The seats are THE BEST I've sat in of any car (similar to the SRT-4 seats, only better)
2. It has Climatronic (dual-zone climate control)...you usually only find this in luxury cars
3. Contrary to what some people think, it IS full-time AWD.
4. The gauges are just as cool as the ones in the STi
5. The clutch/short shifter/tranny combo is awesome!

The reason why people think the R32 costs too much is because they think it's just a GTI with a different body kit & complain that it isn't faster than the EVO or STi. It's not a 1320 car, but it's still very quick & it got the 2nd best track time out of those 3. The MSM costs about $26k, but it only has 178hp (much less than the R32) & most people agree it's a great car. You just have to realize that these are niche cars rather than the typical 300hp STi that appeals to nearly everyone.

Hondas are expensive to, but there is a reason for that. Quality!! VW builds a quality product along with Honda. Domestics aren't up to par yet, and they tend to be cheaper

I'm not so sure VW reliability is on par with Honda, Toyota, Nissan, or Mazda. But; I do like the VWs.

Yeah! Just like the RX-8 starts at $26,000, but goes to $32,000.00. s***! The $26,000 model seems great; until you check out the $32,000 model. Same thing goes for the 350Z.

I think that 29K may be a little high but I'm sure you can do some talking and bring it down a tad. Bring it to even 28K and drop 3G on a turbo and you've got yourself atleast 300 HP. My guess is this car can run around 450-500HP with a decent turbo kit.

HPA motorsports has a Twin turbo set-up for it and in road and track (they tested it) it made a little over 400 HP and it was running 11.2 second 1/4 miles and 0-60 in 3.2 seconds (tied with the Enzo) and has a top speed of 202mph... not too bad for a 2 door hatchback huh?
