Just wonderin what the safe RPM range is for my car, it only has about 2400km's on it and i have the odd time brought them up to about 5000, does this damge anything and also i usually change into 2nd at around 4000..I was just wondering if this is acceptable???? (confused)

Good threads and Mr.Power does sound like he knows his $h!T, but why does Mazda say not to change the oil until 8000km-----and yes even the first oil change. I have like 2500km on my car and have i damaged the engine because I listened to Mazda. I guess I should change it right away!!!

Leave the factory fill in there. I put 4,500 miles on my factory fill before I changed it. The filter will collect debris that may have been missed when assembling the engine.

And as far as breaking it in is concerned, my advice would be to "drive it like you stole it".

Disclaimer: This is just one man's opinion... as there are many opinions on this, with widely varying viewpoints.

I am a mechanical engineer, so I have little more insight into this subject (but I don't have all the specific answers either).

Anyhow, just use "common sense". Just drive your car "normally" (i.e. nothing extreme) and follow the maintnance schedule. The fact is that modern engines are made with very good tolerances, and modern oil has more consistent quality nowadadays (than in the old Detroit era). Sure, you can go for a "power" break-in, but it should be done by an experienced person who knows all of the little details.

If you plan on "driving your car like you are angry at it", then all bets are off. Because you will be spending extra $$$ and time doing either preventative maintenance, or fixing it after the fact.

Keep in mind that any advice that you receive from someone else is just that... advice. Not requirements.
You can never go wrong following the factory recommendations. They try to make instructions that the average "gas & go" consumer will follow. Most people are not as particular about their cars as we are.
