How many Channels??

I guess that I've got the 2002.5 P5 model.... as I've noticed the tweeters mounted up around the side view mirrors.

2 questions.. in this model how are the speakers wired up in the stock layout. I have a total of 6 speakers.. 3 on each side. Does the stock radio output to six channels.... (and if so how many channels do the wiring adapters out there support?)

.... or are the front door and tweeter combined on one channel per side? if so how are they wired? what impedence does this create? what impedence is each speaker?

p.s. how easy is it to get to those tweeters and replace them with something that will remain under the stock grill? happen to know what size they are?

Each tweeter is wired in parallel to that door speaker and each door is one channel of the head unit. I haven't meter a P5 yet but I would guess that the tweeter is matched to just a woofer in the door and that tweeter proply has an 8 ohm or higher resistance as to not freak out the radio when parralleled with thte mid. each set has to be around 4 ohms together.

that is kind of what I was thinking....
so do you know if there are wires from the radio to the door speaker, and then wires from the door up to the tweeter?

using the wiring already there could make hooking up a component set a snap...

(hmmm.... would also assume that the back speakers are just straight 4 ohms)

btw- I've heard a lot of people give the P5 stock stereo system slack, but in my particular model with the 6 speakers it really sounds pretty good? did they really do that much upgrading in the newer models?

I don't think they did any upgrading other than add the tweeter but everyone tasts are different so some will think its ok and others will hate it.
As far as doing componenets go, I mostly use the stock speaker wire, unless asked to run new leads, to the door mid which almost always comes from the radio and put that to the crossover then run a new wire from the crossover to the tweeter since its simple and I can give myself as much slack as i need.
