How is the emergency brake suppose to behave?

Hello all!

I've been curious about the e-brake on this car for a while so today for kicks I pulled it while pulling into my parking space. The first thing I noticed is it did not slow me down very much at all. Also I didn't hear much noise from my gravel driveway.

Anyway, here's what happened...

As you can see only the right rear tire locked up, it appears the left rear didn't do anything at all..? Is that lever really just a parking brake?

I should note that I had the wheels cranked all the way to the right at the time (in case that somehow makes any difference).

how hard did you pull on the brake? unlike the foot pedal that gets electronic assistance, this one actually requires a little good old fashioned elbow grease.

Hmmm... not too hard. I'd say it clicked about 3 times. My neighbor doesn't like people to tear up his driveway (he tends the driveway as a hobby, he's an awesome neighbor!) so I was kinda gentle.

So, it is suppose-to lock both back wheels but not do anything with the front wheels right?

Well if you pull it on the highway while turning and doing 60 the front wheels are supposed to slam into a ditch flipping you end over end teaching you not to do that. It is a parking brake not a true emergency brake. You should pull the brake up to about 7 clicks and test the holding by gently letting out the clutch. If it is loose the car will move. The adjustment is under the cup holder and one adjustment does both cables from inside the car.

LOL!

(I hate to do a post just for this, but that's hilarious!)

I'm a dick I know but I also answered the main question about E-brake function. Well not that it matters but has anyone ever seen a OLD Subaru with front e-brakes. Oh GOD!!! They do exist just not on a Mazda.
