No, it has nothing to do with engine/electronics. It is limited by aerodynamic drag on the car at those speeds. Basically you have to make substantially more hp to go faster because of the amount of force pushing back at the car going that fast.

our cars are "drag limited". a lotta ppl have posted on here saying that when the hit 134mph the car seems to lose power till it drops to 132 and then goes back up to 134 and so on. will the mp3 reflash kill that?

I'd say no. Redneck was the one who reported this behavior and he's running an MP3 ECU, IIRC. Although it seems no conclusion was reached as to why this phenomenon occurs.

fastest i've gone in my P5 was like 105 because stupid CHP are everywhere in the bay area... i swear it seems like i pass a speed trap every time i get on the freeway... i've gotten too many tickets to pull stunts like that now... i have yet to see how much my insurance is going to go up after the tickets i currently have... i really hope that it isn't too bad because otherwise i'm going to be owing my parents lots of money

i hit 120 the other week goin up SR70. i was also packed w/ camping gear and it was windy.

110 for me. i hit 103 the other day and my p5 was still pullin like a b****, it was pullin pretty hard from 90 all the way up to ~103 and then there was traffic.

that was the same day i got my oil changed.

It's easier to do in her 3 than in my P5. The 2.0L 3 has a little more punch.

I thought the mazda's 3's had 2.3L motors.. your P5 has the 2.0L.

Even though I don't have a Mazda anymore.. but i got my STi up to 160mph and my Kawasaki ZZR600 to 150mph and another Kawasaki 636 to 150mph.. been there done that.. i'm finished

I thought the mazda's 3's had 2.3L motors.. your P5 has the 2.0L.


the 3 s with the base package comes with a new new generation 2.0l engine,the more expensive models are equiped with the 2.3l engine...

here in canada you can get a 3 hatchback base model with the 2.3l for a bit more money,but i d rather get the gt fully loaded for the difference wich is alomost none...maybe 500$...

yes stiffer suspension,the spoiler,sunroof,skirts,17 inches mags,higher quality seats material,and the option of the gt-gfx,with leather interior,and now for 2008,hids are available....

Last night I got beat by a buddy of mine in a stock Hyundai Accent... We were even all the way up to 110-112mph then I got stuck at 116mph and he kept going.
Very dissapointing... But soon enough I'll have the benefits of boost... Muah ha ha ha ha!

i'm driving a 5spd and i hit 125 with three people in the car on a decently long stretch of flat road. that means three, the driver (me) and two others. haven't tested it since, and don't feel the need to. Most street races here don't ever get to that speed unless you car can hit it fast. that generally means a turbo is involved like my friends srt-4. or you have a torque monster (V-8's).
