How fast does a 6s feel.

Hey guys I've read reviews online and done searches but I want to hear from actual owners. I'm been seriously considering a very nice 04 White MAzda 6s. My wife and I don't have a lot of cash to toss around and I've been wanting something slightly peppier than the P5 and that 6s is just calling my fame. Its an automatic though with the sportshift which is a must since my wife can't drive a stick.

I have 3 simple questions.

1. How quick does an auto 6s feel in comparion to an auto P5. I know the Duratec V6 is underpowered compared to it's competition but I'm not looking for a rocketship. Just something that feels quick. Whats it comprable too speed wise?

2. Is the auto a 5 or 6 spd

3. Hows the reliability of the Mazda 6's. I've heard some bad things but my P5 has been super reliable so I'm just curious.

I'm just looking for some frame of reference. Thanks.

Oh and this one is just pure curiousity. Is a 6s auto faster in a straight line than an MSP?

Anyone?

The White 04 6s I'm looking at has 38K miles on hte odo and is the sport package. They are asking 16,500 for it and it just looks beautiful.

That seems high to me.

Also its not what it looks like its what it runs like. You should know how that should sound.

Check for rust. First place to look is under the door. Open the door and run your hand along the weather strip that hits the door sill at the bottom. If it comes up clean that means the car was well kept. If not there may be a rust issue.

This is all coming from a person who details cars on the side and knows that you can take a car that looks like a $500 car and polish it to look like a $10000 car.

I driven an Auto 2006 V6 Mazda 6. Very good car actually, sure it's not the MS6, but it has a very good torque curve and definately goes when you stomp on the gas. I even beat two of my friends times at zoom zoom who used the MS6, while I had the auto V6. Car has really nice handling, and is zippy.

Thanks for all the input. 16,500 seems high? I don't know what all the car comes with but any idea where abouts a 6s with 38K on the odo and an auto trans should run? 14K maybe.

I wish I could convince the wife to do this but I still owe 9K on my P5 (I've had for a little over a year) and while I love it to death, I got smoked by modded Yaris a few days ago and that was the last straw for me. I need a car with more get up and go.

My responsible side says pay off the P5 and save towards another car but the enthusiast in me is getting tired of driving a car lacking pep. I like to keep my cars stock also (apart from light audio mods and maybe a CAI) so modding the P5 is out of the question for me.

What about an MSP?

Thats what I was curious about

probably on par, both are high 6-low 7 0-60 IIRC? of course MSP will pwn the 6 when the straight road ends and use of steering wheel is involved

let me take that back, if it's auto 6s vs msp, msp hands down.

The 6s ATX is fast. You'll have no problem dusting off the Yarises! At ZZL I was actually faster in the ATX V6 6s than in the MS6. (Very embarrasing, I know)

I'm not a fan of the manumatic because I feel there's too much of a delay between my command to shift and the trannys response, but then I'm used to driving a 5-speed MTX anyway.

The 6 is supposed to be one of the top-10 cheapest cars to insure according to Edmunds though, for what that's worth.

$16k sounds too high to me.

I know it won't handle like an MSP but is the handling at least on par with the P5 despite the sixes heavier weight.

my impression of riding/driving both tells me the 6 will 'feel' heavier (because it is) and thus less nimble than the P5; there's no way around carrying additional 500+ lbs of weight and not affect a car's handling.

I drove a Mazda 6 V6 at ZZL last year. It was a MTX but it didnt feel bad, it did feel heavy tho...

That seems really high. You could have gotten a brand new 06 6s ATX for $16,500 last weekend in CA ($8000 off advertisement).

yup, for 16k might as well look for a deal on a *new* '06 v6...

If you are absolutely going to get ATX, do not get a 2004 model year, the transmission has some issues. Look for a 2005 with 6 spd ATX, it is much more reliable.

So the 04 is not a 6 spd manumatic? I didn't know that
