How fast can you do a 1-2 shift before you are hurting the tranny?

Well I guess its comforting to know so many people are having the 1-2 blues... If I can get around to it I'll get some redline tranny fluid in there. I also need to throw some water wetter in since grissom gets mighty damn hot in the sun.

I'll live with the tranny and its slow ass 1-2 shift... but when I lose by 2 tenths you know what I'm going to blame it on :)

1-2 on my mp3 wasnt bad after i got used to it. at first it was such a hassle just to get it into second. but now i could change it as fast as i could change from 3-4 just takes practice. i think once i grinded from pulling it way to far into second. tires chirped into second and third all the time

Why bother double clutching? If your clutch is depress, you're technically in neutral already. I say use heel toe (ball toe) method. Basically all Ion is saying is rev match, and why get your foot off the clutch and pop the gear in neutral and then foot on gas to blip the throttle then back on clutch then pop on gear, when you can clutch depress the whole time and blip the throttle with your heel or balls of your right foot?

There's a shift block thing kind of similar to reverse gear when you are going forward to prevent you from shifting 5-R. I think there's one also for 2-3, like if you push the stick forward from 2, it'll naturally go to 3 not 1. Try it out, it feels like the stick is being guided by a rail. I think this is a problem you guys are facing. Not sure if this 1st gear blocking mechanism work though (rpm or speed sensitive)

Anybody knows how the 1st and R gear locking mechanism work?

There should be a shift block on 1st gear once you go over a certain speed so you don't shove it into 1st when going 50 mph. I've heard some guys complain about this during autox, they want to go back into 1st, but their going too fast, and it doesn't allow them right away. Personally, I never need to go back into 1st so I haven't noticed it on this car, but every standard I've owned (Owned all sticks since I was 16) has had this feature.

Anyways, we were talking about shifting 1-2....and yes, it's a b****. Funny thing is, my speed's tranny is much more smooth then my mp3 was. But, in my mp3, I could change from 1-2 a lot faster. I think i have to practice more in the speed. It sucks because if you slip, the turbo looses it's spool, then you get into 2nd and have to get it going again..arg. Tricky s***. i can see why some guys get bad times in these cars sometimes. But when you can do it right...it makes a HUGE difference in accel times

Hey guys...Try redline mt-90..I hear great things about this..

I have been seeing a lot of post about changing to Red Line MTF. When I asked my friends, I got:

Change the MTF when you first get the car new or don't change it at all.

Is it true?

I don't think thats true..but not sure... I know a lot of people have switched to Red Line after awhile and said its runs great.

Well, did some experimenting today. I can get my car into 1st gear at 20 MPH pretty easily, (and maybe at higher speeds), by just applying constant steady firm pressure, on the shifter. Not trying to force it or anything, just even pressure until the synchros line up, and it slipped right into gear. Took maybe a second for it to eventually go into 1st. I'm running Royal Purple 75w-90 in the tranny.

59K is good? I know old crappy cars with well over 100k on the original tranny? I sure as hell hope my ES lasts longer than that.

This is NOT a race tranny, be gentle or you will pay!!!(spank) I never oficially raced my 88 323 GT Turbo and the tranny went at 85K miles and my 99 Prot ES tranny went at 59K miles! I turned it in for my MSP just as it wuz starting to go.

i don't have trouble 1-2 it is 2-3 that i have a problem with, sometimes I scratch the gears like crazy.

What ever you do don't force the tranny into 2nd. My friend went through two trannys this way. Broke the shift forks both times, and screwed the syncros.

i never have any trouble gettin into any gear while im going, occasionally itll have problems gettin itto 1st and reverse from a standstill, but if i let it roll itll pop right into gear all the time
