How far does your remote work from your MAZDA5?

Not very far. I haven't actually measured it, and I'm horrible at guessing distances. But I'd say it only works for maybe 5-7 parking spaces.

I've been kicking around the idea of getting an aftermarket (Clifford/DEI) remote start (I want the kind w/visual confirmation on the remote). But I'm still afraid of the factory warranty.

So far I yet to be dissappointed with distance, although I was shocked to see that in the Mazda manual it says that the remote is desingned to work within 8 feet?

Don't forget, that in order to "boost" the distance the signal will travel, you can touch the remote to the underside of your chin as you press the button. This utilizes your body as an antenna, and doesn't hurt at all! (hah)

Anyone I have ever showed this too never believed it until they tried it for themselves. It works! Sure you may look funny holding the remote to your chin, but I'd rather do that then have to walk back to the car.

Yes. And if you place a bag of microwave popcorn in your mouth you only need to lock/unlock the car 8 times to get that bag popped.

i dont pwn a 5 but im going to asume that the keyless entry is that same as my mazdaspeed and yes it is very annoyingly short. on my mp3 i had a viper alarm though. at the time i worked for walmart and parked in the very last spot facing the front doors (a football field distance at least) and i could be standing inside the stoor looking out and click the lock button and see my lights light up. i wish the mazda remote was that good.

I wouldn't worry about it if you know what you are doing or get a profesional install. They have to proove your modification damaged the car and all remote starts do is help reliablity unless you let it idle for really.... really long periods of time before you drive it.

I just tried this today and it worked like a charm. Although I did forget where I was and walked into a wall aftwards (boom07)

my friend had a tranny problem with his protege5.....took it to the dealer he bought the car from and they told him that they were going to void his warrenty for his aftermarket headlight bulbs. he ran quick. mazda warrenty's are pretty much trash unless you know someone. luckily we do and he went to our usual tech which took care of him. true story. his username on here is smurfedpro5.

It sucks compared to my 3, im thinking some of it is because they put the sensor in front of the dashboard hump, which makes using it from behind the vehicle really bad, if they put the sensor on top of the ledge thingy, it would have helped.

Do the batteries run out of these things fast or something? The other day I was 2 parking spaces away (yes, two spaces away) and it wouldn't work! I could have sworn it had more range than that when it was new.
Yes, the car was nose first in the parking space and I was behind the car, but I would think that it should still have better range than 2 friggin spaces!

I think I'm going to end up with an aftermarket alarm/keyless entry/remote start after a while.

I'm lucky to get mine to work at half that distance...The remote on my 03 MPV is much much better in terms of range.

Either way, that's nice! I think the Premacy has that option for the key...and I believe it's a proximity key.

If I recall there is a service bullitin on the key Fob for the Mazda 5...

btw I have same issue and have had battery changed and my range vary from 2 ft to 20 feet.

I have a fob replacement on order....

yeah, our remotes don't work every now and then.

and the chin thing does work. i've locked my car from a few hundred feet. you look kinda stupid doing it, but it beats walking back.

Either way, that's nice! I think the Premacy has that option for the key...and I believe it's a proximity key.

Look at the bottom right corner, it's etched out and the key pulls out from there. But, as you said, it's also a proximity key, so you don't even need the key in the ignition to start the vehicle.

As for range, since we just picked up our's last night, I have no complaints. I was sitting in a restaurant and was able to lock/unlock the 5 from my chair (probably 40 yards away).
