How do I "clock" the cold side and remove the hot side?

I have a GT28R turbo. I need to clock the cold side so it'll mount up to the hard pipes I'll be installing. Do I just loosen the 6 bolts and rotate it?

Also, I want to paint the hot side of my turbo. Is it possible to remove the housing? Can i just take out the 6 bolts on the hot side?

Yes.
For your other question, I do not know.

Paint the hot side with what? I wouldn't imagine any coating you could apply yourself would last long at all :P

high heat paint. rated to 1200* F

I like your threads... they are all questions I have as well! I'm still not sure if I'll install this turbo stuff or what though. Stupid weak rods.

to clock the cold side..just loosten up those bolts and rotate the housing.
for the hot side, remove all of those bolts and then you can pull that housing off..be really careful not to knick the fins of the compressor when taking it out...If you cannot seperate the two, you will just have to give it some love and it will come loose.

oh yea, and while you are painting the compressor housing keep the rest of the turbo in a plastic bag or something just to keep is safe away from dirt...you dont want anything getting in that turbo

np dude..i gotta get down there and check out the mazdas...im so close, im only at clemson..its an hour and forty minutes to atlanta..just a shoot up 85

Dont paint the hot side with 1200F spray paint. I will get ugly, plus the first few days its going to stink a lot, specially 1st day where you will see smoke coming from the burned paint.
I have pics of how my turbo ended with a 1500F paint, and its ugly!

You better go with ceramic coating.

well, I couldn't get it off anyways. All my tools are metric, and all the bolts on the turbo are standar. My 13mm wrench was just barely loose, and the 12mm was too small, so I'm guessing they're 1/2in. I did paint my exhaust manifold and S-pipe, but I also cured the paint at 400* like the instructions suggested.
