My parents have a '98 626 V6 auto, and with the 626 tranny issues, I made sure to learn about it before that vehicle was purchased.cpterm said:I find piles of complain about the mazda 626 auto transmission.
and I also noticed that the v6 and 4 cylinder car have different
transmission equiped.
Is there anyone know about the reliability of the v6 's auto transmision?
Thank you
I purposely didn't add that in my original post, but yes, the 4-cylinder auto was designed and manufactured by Ford, whereas the 6-cylinder tranny is 100% Mazda (nothing to brag about though, its not a particularly good one either).FC3s Boy said:i think they are made by ford so they are'nt very good

Yes, the 6 cylinder and 4 cylinder auto trannies are different. The 4 cylinder auto tranny is notoriously un-reliable but was re-inforced with the '98+ 626's. Having said that, I would still be very careful with it if I had it (i.e. change fluid very regularly, possibly add a cooler, etc...).
The 6 cylinder auto tranny is reliable but has other issues (i.e. the harshest shifts of any auto I've driven). But, it is reliable.
PS: Please add your location in your profile, it really helps to provide local information. I mean, what if you meant the overseas 626, then everything I just wrote wouldn't apply. Thanks.
Don't worry about the V6 tranny reliability-wise, and a cooler's not necessary. But since you bought it used, and the vehicle is now 5 years old, I suggest you replace the tranny fluid (unless the previous owner recently did it). My parents 626 has had its tranny fluid replaced twice now (years 3 and 6).cpterm said:oh,my location is DC metro area.I just bought a used 99 mazda 626 v6
I did not realize there are so many problems with this car's tranny before.
Do you mean i shoud not worry too much about its tranny?
Is it necessary to add cooler to my v6's tranny?
Thanks
