Horsepower + Torque Cheat Sheet

If any stat junkies are interested, I put together a quick and dirty matrix of engine horsepower and torque for most 2006-2008 consumers vehicles on the market. I also added a column for vehicle weight to get a better idea of power to weight ratios for each.

Even though other factors (such as FWD and limited torque in 1st/2nd) complicate the equations, I thought it would be interesting just to see a side-by-side comparison by the stock numbers... especially to size up anyone lined up next to you at a stop light.

Before anyone starts flaming me, I didn't pull data for every vehicle on the planet. I left out large vehicles like SUVs and economy cars, as a comparison would be pointless in these cases, but I did leave in a few super luxury and exotics just for kicks. I also didn't pull numbers for all trims and mainly focused on the trim with the highest numbers and lowest cost (which were manual transmissions in most cases).

Anyways, this isn't a complete guide but rather a cheat sheet that you could tuck away in your glove box. (naughty)

Like it, thanks. Favorite sort: $/hp. We all knew it was a lot of bang for the buck and this clearly shows this. Also, lbs/torque is interesting. Few cars in the same weight range offer the same ratio.

Handy reference, great job on the list.

There's several new models that are coming out in '08 that I'd like to see added when info becomes available. I know complete info on some of these is not yet available (price, weight etc.):

BMW 1 series
Dodge Caliber SRT-4
VW R32

There are others that I can't think of atm in addition to those three.

Here's a PDF version for you. Unfortunately you won't be able to sort the different columns to see different rankings... but you get the idea. For example, the MS3 is ranked 5th when looking at the cheapest HP per dollar.

Gotta love the pontiac GTO. No where can you get 400 Rip roaring corvette inspired horses, 400 Lb ft and an IRS for cheaper. Its a crime that car was so overlooked. Heres hoping the G8 does better!

3 tonnes of cool gran britania. Still when you have thors resovoirs of torque, 3 tons can move pretty quick!

But just imagine, if a Bently hit a Miata at even 30 mph, the Miata doesn't have a chance at all. Those things traveling at near 150 mph can do more damage then semi's!

When I'm paying that much for a car, I want it to be built like Fort Knox. If I were a Miata driver, I'd be sure to stay out of the way! You take your life in your own hand and trade nimble handling for the slight chance a Bently might squish you! At least the Bentley is more maneuverable than some of the behemoth SUV's waiting to squish my P5 at every turn.

very nice. i would have liked to see 0-60 1/4mile and trap speed along with some older cars like 05 srt-4 last genaration mustangs and camaros and hay mabe the audi s4. mabe if i get ambitious ill look into douing that while im having my recal performed.

It doesnt really matter what car your driving, but if your driving 150 mph and hit something* "God bless you" No take two!! Drive safely ppl.
