Horrifying snap sound

So I was at a stoplight and I started to accelerate away and when I did the 1-2 shift I heard a sickening snap sound. Let me get this out of the way:

1) I shifted at 3k rpm
2) It was NOT hard. I am not covering my ass, it really was not a hard shift
3) It was not butter smooth as normal, I goofed the timing and it was a little jerky.

When I say a little jerky, I mean the type of shift where if you were outside the car you would see a little dip. Since I'm OCD I try to shift so that it's almost imperceptable. On top of that, I only have 800 miles so I'm still babying the car.

Anyways, it sounded like a bolt snapping. I freak, but the car is driving fine. The motor doesn't feel loose or anything. I get home, pop the hood, and find the hood prop is dislodged. It makes quite a racket when you snap it into and out of place. I'm hoping that this was the sound.

Of course, with all the posts of broken motor mounts, that's what I'm worried about. Is there an easy way to check the mounts that are having the problems? Unfortunately I don't have my jack and stands with me. Is it something that can be checked from the hood of the car?

Car will go in Monday for service.

dude why would the hood lever pop out by it self and if it did it wouldn't be "horrifying" i would take it to the dealer and be careful i never hear anything like that and i have 10,00 miles

You know it sucks but if you take it to the dealer and tell them you think the engine mount may be loose they wont do s*** about it. There has to be a recall or something for them to consider that warranty work and to look at. My dealer said dont worry its under warranty and wouldnt do throught the trouble to remove the battery and check the bolt.

I have never heard a sound like that either but I bet you didnt put it into gear all the way and it grinded some teeth in the tranny or something.

My hood prop has come loose also but hasnt made any noise doing so.

The car needs an oil change, I'll have the dealer check it when they do the oil change. I'm positive it wasn't grinding teeth of the tranny.

Not so much grinding teeth but slipping out of gear. There is a thread around where a guy wasnt putting in in gear all the way and had some stripped gears.

Not saying anything is stripped but maybe it slipped out and made that noise.

PS when you take it in for an oil change its not even a mechanic doing it its some douch bag that know s*** about cars. They arent going to just check the bolts that they cant see and the most important one is under the battery so that requires all but 15min work and they wont do it.
