Horrible track times...WTF?!

Couple bits of info -

1 - reaction time has nothing to do with 1/4 mile.

2 - 60 ft time is the most important thing to pay attention to. 2.6 is horrible, 2.4 is still very bad.

3 - trap speeds are usually directly related to the HP of the car. 94 MPH for a ~220 WHP car weighing 3300 lbs with driver is horrible, 96 is better but still low.

4 - Work on launching and getting around 2.2 60 ft times, that is a good goal to work towards when first learning 1/4 in most FWD cars with stock tires.

5 - Try to change your shift points because your traps times are low.

Good luck, it can take some practice to extract 10/10 of the performance out of the car.

Is 2.2 for th 60' doable with a stock MS3?

thanks for the info!

How about you do more then 2 runs!?!

Basically your 60' times are absoluste garbage, thats what needs to change the most here, even if your great at shifiting there no real time to be made up once first gear is over, you just hang on for the ride. The race is over in the first 2 seconds.

I had similar 60' times and was able to get much better 1/4 mile times

First run: Second: Third: Forth:
60' 2.346 2.526 2.528 2.560
330 6.406 6.514 6.471 6.582
1/8 9.755 9.675 9.600 9.735
MPH 74.42 77.90 78.84 78.22
1000 12.564 12.383 12.295 12.429
1/4 14.914 14.687 14.594 14.768
MPH 95.92 98.59 98.15 94.05

The first run I mis-shifted 3rd and the last run I mis-shifted 5th

in this car if you can get a ridiculous 60' you're going to do well. The MS3 is a "fast" car it is not a "quick" car for the 1/4 mile. I raced an 5.0 mustang he ran 13 seconds and I ran 15 seconds and we finished at the same mph which is a perfect example.

My times have been getting slower and slower I think a lot of it is my stock tires are just loosin' their traction. My 60 fts are slower which correlates. I'm spinning my wheels too much I can't lock them in. My fastest time I had hardly any wheel squeeeel.

Oh ... this guys banned?

Someone with track experience should start one up, I want to look at some other times with people who have APs.
The thread should still be around, as I recall jbird took it over.

To the OP: Careful flat shifting. It's going to be hard to convince your foot to clutch in with the gas pedal pegged to the floor... (at least it is for me). Also, on the 2-3 shift, take your time. Don't rush it. Smooth is fast. If the clutch isn't fully engaged when you go from 2-3, you may grind a little if you rush it, and if your MM is stock the rocking of the engine under hard acceleration may misalign the linkage making it hard to get into 3rd.

If you can get a good 60ft time (around 2.0 seconds) and you hit each shift around 5,500 RPM you should get into the low 14s pretty easy.

great advice! sure wish i asked you guys before i went! hahaha

thanks guys!

My best 60' time was a 2.090 and thats with the stock setup.
EDIT: what I meant was stock wheels and tires. I have CAI and MM.

wow that's pretty darn good...good for you assman...

I have more problems going from 1st - 2nd I hear a huge clunk i think its the engine jumping around... also I'm real worried last time i ran i had a nasty snap noise but we'll see motor mount looks to be okay not sure if its going. I looked today but didn't take it out... can't figure out why i'm getting consistently slower now

Do you still have the stock MM? B/C with that bad thing in you'll feel like you just hit your motor to the ground.

My last day at the track went like this.

.193RT
2.22-60'
8.93-1/8@83.8mph
1/4=13.61@107.17mph

I did get a 2.0 60' but my 1/4 time was not better.I was running beta V1.03 map and was getting alot of knock retard so Im guessing that didnt make my times any better.Mods are in my sig and a video of me at the strip going agasnt my brother in his Mach1 with intake and exhaust..

YES I do! my TRZ poly is in transit now. Thats exactly what it feels and sounds I sear I can hear my motor clunking under the hood. I was going to wait to the winter but I thought I broke it last week so I just ordered it.

Hey does someone want to start another 1/4 mile track time thread and monitor it?

1...2...3... not it! (finger on nose)

Haha yea the first time i heard that noise i knew what it was but dam it sounds like your braking something. It will be much better with the new MM.

man i couldnt help but notice your track times.. was something wrong with your car at the time? because my msp which is quite a bit slower than ur ms3, and i was having 2.3 and 2.2 60ft times, and finishing off between 14.9 adn 15.2 but at a trap speed of 91 mph

so, I took my stock MS3 to the track the other night and ran pretty crappy runs I think.

First Run
R/T .276
60' 2.536
330 6.690
1/8 9.998
MPH 72.44
1000 12.826
1/4 15.184
MPH 95.22

Second Run
R/T .377
60' 2.467
330 6.553
1/8 9.7845
MPH 75.62
1000 12.539
1/4 15.018
MPH 89.50

Third Run
R/T .218
60' 2.539
330 6.687
1/8 9.936
MPH 75.50
1000 12.696
1/4 15.016
MPH 95.04

First run: wheel hopped off the line, shifted at 6500
Second run: launched clean, flat shifted at 5500, but missed 5th
Third run: wheel hopped, flat shifted at 5500, and didn't bother shifting to 5th

Each run could have been better, but it was my first time at the track with my MS3. I need to get better at launching it for sure, but I'm just not used to driving my SPEED like it's a track car... I'm more used to just driving it like I stole it. ;) (drive2)

My first time at the track was a fun experience but I could have done so much better.

I have my time slip somewhere

Three runs all in the high 14s (huh)

It was 98 degrees out though and I just couldn't launch for s***.

My worst time was 15.065 @ 99 mph.

Friend told me I had a good trap speed but I just can't launch for s***.

its fun until you start to expect yourself to be running a certain time!
It really sucks we have to shift into 5th and it ain't an easy gear.

I'm finding (and others may disagree) you have to ride the clutch / fether the clutch coming off the line. If you think you can simply pop it on the stock tires being front wheel drive like you watch some of the other cars run you're gonna struggle. My times esp my 60 fts got worse when I started launching way to hard. I was hitting second gear well before the tree.

Honestly I never really liked launching the car so I don't have much practice.

First time I bogged out. Second time I got wheelspin. Third time I didn't even notice the tree and didn't go lol! Fourth time went well but still couldn't get a good launch.

Good Day
Leave aeround 3k slipping clutch, power shift 1-5 = 13.9-14.2 Stock 2.0-2.25 60' 100-102 MPH= -pratice, not a great car to drag race stock. Hot = <
28psi front-45 psi rear

everyone tells me to drop my front tire pressure but to be honst i'm finding more wheel spin than when i ran street tire pressures

power shifting esp 1-2 w/out an upgraded motor mount may be rough

does power shifting involve not using the clutch or just being flat on the throttle while using the clutch?
