Hooking up an iPod

Hello all, this is my first post here, so be gentle. I have a 2002 Protege 5 and would like to hook up my iPod using a line in as opposed to an FM modulator. I have the stock head unit. I looked inside today and saw that there was an addition spot on the back to plug an extra unit in (i'm assuming this is for either the tape deck or the minidisk unit). What I would like to know is "Is there a harness I can buy to plug into that auxillary port that will give me left and right RCA jacks?" If such a monster exists, where can I buy one?

Thanks for all of your help,

Bryan

Good idea, already been tried a bunch. It's apparently not a simple situation, because those aren't really RCAs (from what I've gathered according to several posts regarding the situation.) As of right now, your two options are the FM modulator or an aftermarket deck that accepts inputs (like the Kenwood in the MSP). The stock HU just isn't big on features...that's why a lot of people go aftermarket.

This's been gone over a couplefew times. I'ma ctually on my way in to my freind's stereo shop and I'll look into it. There's a company that makes adapters for plugging into factory decks that will generally run off of cdchanger or tape control sections, etc plugs and turns them into RCA's or 2.5mm jacks. The plug you'll likely use is not on the back, rather it's inside of the deck in thath empty "bay" on the bottom. ANyway, I'll see if they'v eupdated theri system and offer something for us yet.

I spent several hours the other day scouring the Web for any lead on tapping into the OEM radio and it seems it just might be possible to do it by plugging in a Auxiliary Input Adapter into the jack that the Mazda MiniDisc or Tape Player would plug into. Blitzsafe claims to be working on such a product for the Mazda modular radio.
Feel free to check out what I have learned: http://www.stevedarnley.com/mazda_mp3.html
