Hook for the undercarriage??

Wasn't sure where to post this....so I figured Suspension was good. I've always knows previous Mazdas to have a hook underneath that was attached to the suspension so that the vehicle could be pulled (towed) out of a snowbank or a ditch....if so needed. I don't see one for the CX-5. I questioned this to a sales rep at 2 different dealerships and was told that was the purpose of the hooks that are in the back hatch that screw into the front and rear. However, from reading the manual, it states these hooks are merely for tying the vehicle down during transport...and not for towing anything. So, if that's the case, what happens if I need to be pulled out of a ditch?? Is there a hook underneath that I can't see?? Or, are the hooks that screw into the front / rear good enough??

Jesus Bon, what are you planning on doing with this thing? It's not really an "off-road" vehicle you know? That said, in an emergency such as you describe it is probably OK to use the tie down hooks to pull the vehicle out of a ditch or winch it up onto a flatbed truck. What you should never do is use them to tow the vehicle for any distance. And no, there are no other hooks hidden on the undercarriage.

You have a plastic cover in the bumper, which has to be removed and where are the tools in the back there you have a screw in hook.

Haha!! Yeah, I know. Was just curious, as I've had to be pulled out of a ditch a couple times when driving a car. I don't imagine it would happen with my AWD CX-5.....but I was just curious. The sales guys made it sound as if the main purpose for the tie down hooks were for towing the vehicle (which is a bit misleading).

Exactly why it might need a tow :) If it was a better off-road vehicle you wouldn't need to worry as much about getting stuck.

These points here might be strong enough.. Assuming you can find a hook that will attach there.. and that you can access those points while the vehicle is stuck.

Interesting. Where did this drawing come from and what are the holes intended for?
