Nice, but a very good point about not being independant. Hell, in looks alone its a great mod, If it works beyond even a little bit, not a bad deal.

how about an XR-8 style grill available online from a couple of australian places... they are pretty low profile grill pieces, and don't stand out too much....

its for an australian car, so aus is probably the place to look for them, but i'm sure chevy or something american would of had similar things.... just don't make it look like a hyundai excel!!!

just $389 on intake/exhaust cams, $316 on hi-compression pistons, $179 for a new waterpump/alternator pully set.... adds up to about $900 as well. but at least i'd get, conservatively, +20 extra ponies at the crank (about 16hp at the wheels?).
then again, it does look sexy.

if i had to choose between the two, i'd go for all go. both would be nice but that's spending $$$ that i don't have. besides, having an all-show/no-go car is lame IMHO...
i'd work on the go. once i'm satisfied with the go (most likely not though), i'd work on the show.
but building up the motor can get more and more expensive as you go along though (speaking from personal experience).... for me, i tend to keep the "showiness" of my car to a minimum. wheels and some subtle effects. no big wings or body kits for me.
to make the car go faster though means big $$$ whether you go boost or go n/a. turbo kits run in the $4000s... while building up an n/a motor means each separate part is cheaper (like the abovementioned cams), the labour involved can get very high (meaning more $$ spent) - unless you do your own work.
and though the each of the parts are cheaper, together they'd end up being a significant lump of change. turbos are definitely the cheapest way to boost HP/torque as long as you're willing to spend more time taking care of the engine (turbo timer, ecu re-mapping/piggyback, boostcontrol, etc.)
with n/a engines, you spend more time at the beginning but they're easier in the long run and they're more reliable as you don't get as many failures as turbo systems do. not as much power gains as turbos though.
which brings up a 3:35am rant, why can't mazda build up an n/a engine like honda? seriously, the old integra type-r was pushing 180hp off an n/a motor. if you boosted that, you went into the mid-to-high 200s. why can't all n/a cars do that? or get close with their 4-bangers? why am i stuck with 130hp at the crank? and instead of working on the 2.0L's internals to boost power for the MSP, mazda decide to take the lazy/cheap way out and go turbo..... sigh.
if only they worked on the engine a little more, we'd have so much of a better base to work with....
