My brother's '01 Civic LX's auto tranny decide to eat s*** and die at 46K miles. Anyone in the Savannah area able to hook him up with some repair work?

a good friend's father-in-law owns a tranmission shop, but he's about 40 miles outside of town. i could still ask him about it, but the towing might not be worth getting it there.

Honda doesn't rebuild auto trannys in house. The dealerships will only know how to take it out and put in a replacement. You've basically got four main options:

1. Take it to Honda (KY in hand, or otherwise (lol2) ) and they'll replace it
2. Take it to a transmission place and get it rebuilt
3. Find a replacement tranny at a junkyard (or wherever) get it put in
4. Get a rebuild kit and DIY (not as hard as it seems, I can rebuild an early 90s Accord tranny in under 8 hours including removal/install)

The options given go from most expensive to least (1-4) and from most convenient to least (1-4). PM me if you want any help finding replacement parts (Dacco of Detroit sells awesome s*** for cheap). Word of advice, a few Honda dealerships are cool enough to make copies of the shop manuals for you, you've just gotta ask the right person. It won't tell you how to do it but it'll give you detailed diagrams of the parts and where they go that a Chilton's manual won't (but Chilton's is great for getting the tranny to the floor). If you've got any more questions PM me but I'll try to remember to check out this thread to offer advice to any questions thrown out.

Well my brother doesn't have the knowledge/facilities to replace the tranny himself. Right now its at the dealership and they will know by tomorrow what needs to be fixed. Replacing the tranny is going to be less of a hassle than rebuilding.

generix- depending on the dealership's estimate, that shop may be an option.
