I just picked up my s GT hatchback tonight. I went to program my garage door opener only to discover there's no Homelink transmitter. I checked the Mazda website, and Homelink is available as an option/accessory for every trim level except the s GT. Am I missing something? Is is hidden/included somewhere I'm not seeing?

Wow, this is surprising. I am looking into sGT as well.
It is confirmed from the spec sheet that HomeLink mirror is not available even as an accessory for sGT.
Don't know exactly why, but this might have something to do with the fact that sGT has the tech package that comes with city brake, which uses a laser sensor installed at where the mirror base is. What I don't get is that if one chooses to opt out tech package, why can HomeLink mirror be installed?
It might have something to do with the adaptor kit for the mirror base.
Sad, I might be getting sT or iGT and add options from there.... Typical Mazda. They always overlook something for 1st year. Same with CX9 I had.

Probably because it's already got a powered auto dim mirror in place and it's removal isn't trivial for whatever reason. Most of these dealer "installed" items are basically modular plug and play setups.

I installed a Gentex mirror myself on my CX9. It wasn't difficult at all.
Most of these so-called "accessories" are installed at ports of entry (meaning LA on the west coast).
Not at dealerships, not at factories. Of course, workers at dealerships can do it for you if you want it later.
As I said, you can DIY if you are handy.
I think it is the wiring that prohibits sGT from having Gentex mirror installed. (to be tech package compatible)
Luckily it has the auto-dimming as standard mirror. I can live w/o the HomeLink.

WOW! You have to be F'ing kidding... I test drove one this past Saturday and didn't even think to check for a garage door opener. Isn't that pretty much standard on ALL cars now. All of the tech in the sGT and no garage door opener?? This on top of all the infotainment/NAV bugs... I'm calling the dealer tomorrow and backing out of the deal.
Canceling a car over not having homelink? For all of the other technology in the car I understand its stupid it doesn't come with it.. but I don't know any other car that costs under 40k that comes with everything the Mazda 3 does.. minus the home link. As for the infotainment system, I am guessing most bugs are rare and most will be fixed in software updates relatively soon if they are that wide spread.. Still I don't think you'll find a better car under 40k, but thats just me.

I wouldn't cancel mine for that, but this was unexpected. During a test drive, few will check that out, and as it's available on lower trims, when deciding to go "all in", it's hard to notice this is missing. I truly noticed when I arrived home and told my kid to "wait until I program the car's mirror to open our garage door". After a couple of minutes that was a "go home first, I'll figure it out in the manual" while I looked puzzled and wondered where the 2 homelink buttons went...

Don't worry.
HomeLink just needs an extra constant 12V wire.
Eventually, one will be available. I installed one myself on CX9.
You just run the wires down to the driver-side kick panel inside which there are all sorts of tap points, constant 12V or switched.
You just need to wait for the proper kit to be available so that the installation would look nice.

i believe the real problem is the base required for the mirror. Because of the bulk of the components around the mirror on the GT models it places the first "pivot ball" about 2" out from the windshield. I've tried and not found a mirror that would work from either Gentex or Magna-Donnelly. Running the constant power is the easy part. Transferring the Magna Donnelly OE "special" mount to another mirror with Homelink is all but impossible because the shells of the mirror are ultrasonically welded together. Mazda likely had the dimming-only mirror built and avoided the cost of a homelink unit. I feel this was a bad idea as Homelink buttons are very important to me.
I noticed that to after test driving one... it's a item easy to miss since the lower trim level has it.
