the area around the head is so big because it a competition seta, meant it is big enough for the helemet and any tubes coming out of it(air/water) also because it sticks so far around in a roll over accident you can grab the seat like a grandma-handle or like the seats on jets, its actually safer to have your hands up there(if you can get em there) than the wheel.
