mazda 3 s winning blue
or i should say, just really paranoid....

so here's the thing. i got and installed a Mazdaspeed CAI for my 3 S. love it... to me, worth it.

today is day 6 or so and no problems at all- UNTIL, i went to my local automated carwash (including underspray)... now its throwing a CEL.

i know that there was no "direct" contact with water. when the light came up, the car kinda slowed just a tad. car runs ok now, just ever so slightly "bogged" i suppose. i drove home for about 10 more minutes and the car has been sitting for about 40 minutes safely at home... the cel is still there...

i am guessing im not too too screwed on this one. just a little nervous.
thoughts?
what do do?

thanks

I knew someone who had a CAI on his 3, and drove through a heavy rainstorm and the car threw a CEL. He took his whole intake apart and saw that it was soaked with water, including the MAF. He cleaned the tubing, let the MAF and filter dry out, unplugged the battery for 5 minutes to reset the ECU, and everything was OK afterwards. I suggest you do the same.

+1 to that.....from what i have heard...if it was worse then what you experianced...the car would be dead. Do you didn't completely hydrolock the car...but chances are the MAF just got a good amount of water.

so you guys think i can drive it to work and all for the next couple days (albeit a little "lighter" than usual) or should i address this asap?

perhaps it will dissapate on its own overnight... ?

i'm trying to remember, for the purposes of resetting the ecu (and saving time before work), just the neg. terminal will suffice right...(uhm)

thanks again and sorry for the repeated postings.

yep, just disconnect it for 5 min.

Drive it to work and see if the CEL comes back on.

na jsut let it dry and let the ecu reset alone, it probably threw a cell because the air filter was damp and not giving enough air.....my personal opinion is to let the computer adjust itself

Dang it, I just ordered a CAI am I not going to be able to drive it through rain?

You have to avoid deep puddles...rain won't matter.

The 3 has vents inside the fenders that will throw water onto the CAI if you drive through puddles. (Small puddles are OK)

I had a CAI on my P5, I went back to stock because I was tired of worrying about it. I'm not putting one on the MS6 either.

u are seriously ok..jsut drive slow when u drive in rain.. i live in florida and it rains alot but i jsut ordered hks bov and wil be ordering a cai after i install the bov...my driving will change in the rain because usually i burnout in the rain becasue its so easy i turn the dsc off and go 1-3 spinning tires and its so fun ..but jsut take it easy and ull be ok(bang)

Should have gotten a K&N Typhoon CAI/SRI, and just use the SRI, sounds better anyways than CAI. Plus you don't t have to worry about water what so ever.

Should just try a reset, if it there is still a problem, it will throw the CEL again. I was pulling fuses (by accident) while the cars ignition was on, and it threw a CEL. And it did not go off, even though everyhting was okay...I had to reset, then it was fine.

Just my 0.02 though (spin)
