there is probably a black hole sitting in between us and whatever is behind it. Thing of it like using your hand to block the sun from your eyes.

From what I understand astrophysicists believe holes like this one are believed to be caused by the pull from larger areas of mass leaving a void in between like they mention at the end of the article. This isn't the only one as they said, but it is the biggest ever found.

If it were a black hole their readings would show huge amounts of gravity coming from that area since they suck in all matter around it and concentrate it to one point (theoretically). I would think an area like this could be caused by being "near" a black hole. All the matter is drawn to the black hole leaving an area of absolutely nothing.
