hmmm, got a strange noise

so i was driving around concord last night with some guys and my car started making a funny noise when in boost. it only makes the noise while in boost and it sounds sort of like a supercharger whine on top of my turbo spool. i also get a jerk when letting off the throttle coming out of boost that feels as if i had abruptly let off the pedal while boosting. as well, in fifth gear if i am boosting at any constant level i feel a slight hesitation that comes and goes as the speed increases. doesn't do that in any other gear. car still pulls and still reaches the same levels of boost as it did before i heard the weird whine. i have an injen intake, a joep fpr, custommsp smic, and a dg ram air hood (not functional yet, not sure if the hood is making a difference but figured i would mention it). the only thing i can think that might be causing it would be a boost leak on the turbo to IC pipe because it doesn't fit very well at all. although it has never made this noise and i have had the IC for about 3 months now. any help would be greatly appreciated.

don't boost in 5th gear really hard ! 5th gear puts the most load on the engine because of the gear ratios. this puts more stress on the engine then any other gear. if you don't want to blow your engine, don't boost in 5th gear for long periods of heavy acceleration.

as far as that whine goes, i'm not sure what it could be. it could be your tires or your tranny. the hesitation you're feeling while boosting in 5th gear is the engine trying to cope with moving the vehicle. the abrupt jerk is going to happen after you let off the throttle because the engine is torquing itself in place and changing engine speed drastically (i.e. closing the throttle after full open) will cause this often. be very cautious when driving your car, please

does anybody know what that ticking sound at idle is ? i'm still wondering what the source is.

well i don't ever let the boost go over 5psi in fifth and i was only doing it then because it was making the weird sound and the hesitation. and this time it was totally different. not like any hesitation i had ever felt before. and i've NEVER had it jerk every time i let off the throttle. it used to only do it when i let off abruptly. that ticking is your valves ticking. i'm not sure why they do it but and am about 99% sure that is what that is

so now the car jerks hard even if your doing a gradual/light throttle step off ? not too sure what that could be. what's the weather like right now ? i know that when it's cold my car acts a little harsher.

well i figured out what it was. i had a boost leak on the entank of my intercooler just as i had thought. it's sealed up pretty good now and running MUCH better. thanks for the help tho
